I am taking my car on a trackday to Bedford where the drive-by noise limit is 87.5dba which is measured at a distance of 20m.
My car was 89.8dba drive-by at Donington which is measured on the pit wall.
Any noise experts out there who can tell me if they think I will be safe at Bedford?

Probably not very safe as Db isn't a linear scale - 89 is a *lot* more than 87; 3db is (approximately) a doubling. On the other hand the noise meters at bedford are pretty obvious - if you're willing to short shift / lift past them. I'd be most concerned about the static test, in theory if you pass that, and are a bit sensible, the drive by should be ok.My car was 89.8dba drive-by at Donington which is measured on the pit wall.

Well going by my car/personal experience you should be absolutely fine.My car was 89.8dba drive-by at Donington which is measured on the pit wall.

My car is between 91-93 static and I've never had any issue at Bedford or need to back off etc.
ONLY circuit I have ever been pulled in for a "word" was Donington who reckon I was over 99db on drive by

Bedford is the worse out of the two, I guess you will be quite close to the limit if your Donny test was accurate. The 5 meters at Abedford can be avoided (or gap increased) until you get a feeling for the noise levels but does spoil the fun.
What car and what mods?
E92 M3 with the OEM exhaust mod. What car and what mods?

A friend of mine passed the static noise test at Bedford in a supercharged Civic Type R but then after only 7 laps failed the drive by with a reading of 91db and was kicked off the circuit
Think if you have passed the static [quite comfortably at that] then the one strike and your out/off rule is totally unreasonable. With different conditions on different days and allowing for different equipment between circuits then it is impossible and unreasonable to expect anyone to know 100% there car will be ok, especially if your usually close anyway. To be fair everyone should be given one chance [warning] and then either back off or silence somehow or be sent home if failing it again - then that's fair enough.shim said:
I think e92 will be ok at Bedford.
If you get a problem say you passed the meter with another car nd it was the combined noise therefore not your car only.
Try to get another go and just avoid the meters
I have a map of meters if you want.
CSLs pass at Bedford even with full SS exhausts
Thank you - can you PM me the map?If you get a problem say you passed the meter with another car nd it was the combined noise therefore not your car only.

You don't need a map, the noise meters are incredibly obvious, just take an opportunity to spot them all during your sighting lap and then short shift past them after that. Most of them are to the left of the track too, so adjustment to your racing line can help too.
The marshals will want to keep you on track and will only kick you off if you ping off all the noise meters consecutively during the same lap.

thats not true, you will be kicked off if you ping one of the meters once, unless you have prepped a bloody good excuse, granted 3 out of 5 are on the left but certainly not a folproof way of finding them.

This was direct Info from one of the marshals when I was there asking about exactly this subject, so it is true!Moderator edit: image removed - not yours to post.

The one strike and you're out rule is valid for anyone other than club msv(who at like reasonable human beings and give you a chance to change your silencer)
I'd be interested to hear where you got that information (which I assume is incorrect) as the implications of it being a valid statement are vast, as I'm sure the other TDO's on here will agree.Jonny
