HI All

I have a track day coming up on Friday. I have been reluctant to switch the road wheels (wearing Bridgestone S02's) on recent days for the track wheels (wearing Toyo 888's). Are 888's safe in the wet at all ?

I run full slicks in the damp, they're fine until there's standing water. Any standing water and slicks are dangerous, but if it's just damp tarmac then they still give more grip than treaded tyres. I imagine the same goes for R888's. One thing to keep an eye on, though, is tyre temp. Because obv you don't get them as warm in the damp as you do when it's bone dry, so grip will be compromised by that. I imagine that the partial tread on the R888's will be able to shift /some/ water - but I would only use them in the same circumstances as full slicks - i.e. up to "damp". Reason for this is that I believe the tread is only really there as lip service to the legal requirement for "some" tread to be present, rather than for any practical reason!

They are fine so long as there is no standing water.

Very rigid sidewalls which don't help with progressiveness but they grip fine (within reason) so long as you don't have standing water everywhere.

Is this at Coombe on Friday?

I have the same dilema, I see it is now forecast for heavy rain in the afternoon. I've fitted semi-slicks in preparation and just hope it'll be drier than forecast.

Fine providing you can get a bit of heat into them.

Correct. Hit puddles and you may as well be on slicks (just ask my son and the rear of my track car hehe )

I have run virtually bald 888s at Oulton Park in conditions which caused one session to be stopped. I was stunned by how much grip was available, but as others have said, tyre temperature is key to their performance and standing water inevitably caused problems.
