Usually in bike banter but thought I would post our toy
Discussion
Love bikes, love trackdays and generally am a petrol head (even though my daily driver is a remapped 330d)
Just wanted to share with you guys mine and a friends most fun last 8 years with our track toy.
The original one up until this year has been a 1988 Maestro a turbo with something a bit fruity under the bonnet, this is a car we built up and having gone through many specs over the past 8 years and ended up a Subrau slayer infact unless a car had around 450bhp and was very well set up the Maestro use to fly by.
So here it was until this year when we decided to obviously keep the Engine and box and build up and MGZR as we had taken the maestro as far as we could go
Specs for people that were interested
Maestro Turbo
multi point FIA Cage, seats and Harnesses
40 litre fuel Cell
Poly windows,
K7AR gearbox with a Gripper Diff
Leda suspension, Dunlop semi slicks
Engine
We started off with a rebuilt Maestro Turbo engine and year after year ran different turbo's etc, in the end we built up a
Rover T16 spec was
forged Rods, Forged Pistons, Steel Crank, 8.2:1, Ported and polished head, 285 Cams, double valve springs, T34.63 Escort Cosworth turbo running 28psi
Power a respectable 330bhp & 335 ft lb
ECU is K5 emerald which is fully mappable
Car weighed in at 809kg
It was our piss take car, 1.3 written on back, a shopping list down the door which said milk, cheese, coffee etc
We finally called time on the car back end of last year and stripped the car selling the shell to a guy in Scotland using it for classic competition
On to the new one
bog standard MGZR 160, purchased in immaculate condition, with believe it or not, not a single piece of rust
The big strip down started, we removed all access weight, lightened panels where possible, next was a full FIA WRC spec weld in cage that goes through to turrets, this took me and my friend 8 weekends to weld in.
We decided to paint it (advise don't spray 2 pac paint with B&Q masks) we have gone for Ford Frozen white, we still have a few more panels to do.
Brakes are Brembo 4 Pots with 325mm discs
Engine will be out of the a maestro but running a tad more boost, we will run the
Is at 350bhp / 350 ft lb
Suspension Avo remote reservoir dampers, EcU will be same Emerald K5 ECU
Carbon bonnet, boot lid and polycarb windows
Total weight will be around 860kg
I have posted some pics of the maestro and progress of the MGZR
What do you think?
