I'm looking to book my second trackday with my R1 engined 7.

I did blyton park last week, but annoyingly they didn't do any sound checks (was hoping they would so I know how loud I am)

I would like to book Bedford autodrome, but am a bit worried about the 101db test.

I've got a 6" by 25" can, which is reasonably quiet, but when revved past 9K it does still sound quite loud to me, but not sure of what on a DB scale?

I've got a pipercross PX600 air box, so induction noise should be ok.

I suppose I could fit one of those DB killer things, but wold rather not as they add quite a restriction and increase engine temps which is not good.

So does anyone have any experience with BEC at Bedford.

Does anyone have any advice?

Cheers

you might struggle - bedford are notoriously strict and most BECs struggle to pass 105db days....definitely worth investing in your own db meter to get an idea

I have a vague recollection that when someone else asked a similar question, it was suggested that they contact their nearest track, as they may let you turn up to a track day you're not booked onto and go through the static sound testing to get a reading. I guess it is in the circuit's interest as they may get your future trade and also because failures are a hassle they'd rather avoid.

MSV are generally pretty helpful, I find, so you could give them a call. As you'll know, the sound tests are usually done between sign on and briefing (7.30 and 8.30 am).

The Track and Tour event at Bedford on Saturday 17 August that I am going to also has an 87.5db drive by limit, so I guess you would still have to consider that too.

You'll need a 7.25" dia silencer to lower the noise level. My caterham fireblade has a repackable silencer i designed and its 98dbA static. My old 6" inch dia silencer was over 108 db at 3/4 max rpm.

Ive got a megabusa with a 7" repackable simpson silencer and reverie airbox and I've done Bedford a few times and was always only just under 101db, was fine on drive by though.

My Radical SR3 RS passed the noise test at Bedford the last time out there and I am booked on for this Saturday also. HTH.

Call Bedford Autodrome on 01234 332400, tell them you'd like a noise check, and they'll arrange for you to pop over and get it done, FoC. It's the same guy and equipment they use on track days, so you get a definitive check. If it's over 98dB static, there's a chance you'll fail the drive-by - they can't check that without, er, driving by, so they can't do 'ad-hoc' checks. My Westfield, at 97dB static (2 litre Zetec with extra large silencer & closed bonnet - a lot of the noise is induction) passes the drive-by.

I took my Westfield megablade and had no problems with nose, but I did use a end can from merlin motorsports.

I had no problems with engine temperature, car was factory built with standard exhaust .

Cannot remember the db on the day of test , I would recommend getting a decibel and taking it with you.

I have seen lots of caterham s lately at track days beng black flagged for noise , just buy one as they are not that expensive.

Better to be prepared, then miss out on track time.!

Assuming you mean a decibel *meter*, I also got them to check mine while I was at Bedford. It overreads by 12dB!
