Road/Track Day Tyre Recommendations

Hi folks
My current favourite road tyres are Goodyear Eagle F1s, I find they give plenty of grip, but more importantly (for me) they are very consistent across most road surfaces/conditions and offer a high level of steering feel - something that I place above outright grip.
They also perform very well as an occasional track day tyre, although they do seem wear very quickly. I also like Michelin Pilot Sports, but I'm interested to hear what other tyres you guys/gals use and what your recommendations would be.
I'm currently driving/sharing a Mitsubishi FTO (my g/f's car) until I buy something else. Obviously tyres perform slightly differently depending on what type of car they're fitted to, but my next car will most likely be a light(ish) hot hatch, Renaultsport Clio 182/Honda Integra Type R/Mk2 Golf GTi, but could possibly be a S1 Lotus Elise. I'll be aiming to do 3 - 5 track days next year, but the majority of driving will be on the road - so no R888s please!

Yoko AD08 for me. Do the job on track and good on the road. I've heard a lot of good things about the AD08s. I used to run Yokos many years ago and got on very well with them. Definitely worth considering. How do you rate them for steering feel and consistency across different road surfaces/conditions?Eduardo.

I'm not a massive fan of Toyos and there also seems to be mixed opinions about T1Rs. They seem to offer good grip in both dry and wet, but can be very sensitive to tyre pressure and noisy(?) I've driven a mates car on track that had R888s and I didn't like them. Outright grip was incredible, but I didn't like the feel of them and they went off fairly quickly. Admittedly they were on a fairly heavy car which R888s aren't particularly suited to and I didn't get a lot of seat time. I'd forgotten about Federal RSRs, I remember hearing good things about these about a year or so ago. I seem to recall them having almost as much grip as R888s but with much better road manners. What car/tyres do you guys currently run and how many (if any) track days do you do per year?
I use the AD08's on the Track when not dry or hot enough for slicks or not wet enough for wets. They allow me to do track days in March and November
I think they are a very good tyre with lots of grip when the track dries up and do there job on wet too as long as they have a good amout of thread on them. They still are a summer tyre like most performance tyres but will still do the job with some heat into them. When the traction goes they seem very progressive. I have no ABS and no Traction control on my car and did lock them at the front this weekend at Anglesey on the bouncy bits due to hard suspension set-up but almost didn't feel it ( apart from the smoke
) . I had the back going too but all very smooth, never any panic so good for the road too i presume. Very nice steering feel too i would say.

I'm running 595 RSRs on my Megane at the moment. One thing is for sure, they aren't anywhere near as good as 888s, but on 18" rims, they are very much cheaper and seem to be lasting quite well. If money didn't matter, other than in standing water, I would run 888s for both wet and dry.
AD08's work well for me - on a 1250kg 944S2. I've also heard good reports on a DC2.
I believe there is a new compound on the way - softer & quicker on the track
but one of the great things about the current tyre is the balance between grip and wear rates - they seem to last for a good while (8mm tread depth helps) and still come close to more specialised track tyres in performance.

I used to run T1Rs which were great on the road and track, before moving to a more track-orientated tyre with the R888s.
The R888s were great on track but up there on cost especially when they don't last very long.
Now i'm on the 595 RSR's which seem better in wet conditions with general road use then the R888s, not quite as good as the R888s on track but not that far off, yet are about half the cost and last twice as long, in effect 1/4 the cost of R888s. Given this i can happily live with the slight performance disadvantage on track!

Not a direct answer to your question but running a high hp r53 mini on the goodyears as daily driver

AD08 can't be beaten as an all rounder IMO. I find it interesting that you like the steering feel of the goodyear. I put some on my car after using AD08 and was taken back by how poor they felt, very very very very very soggy. FWIW I've also used Avon ZZ3, Pirelli Pzero, Potenza RE050, RE070. None of these felt wayward like the GY AS2. You can see the softness easily off the rim, the sidewall can easily be flexed by hand, as if it has no support whatsoever.

Yep, the AD08R. Just put 4 of them on my MX5 on Friday but I haven't had it on track yet so not much to report other than so far they have definitely stopped my wheels from being on the ground. They don't feel massively soft which to me is good as I'd sacrifice a little bit of grip for consistency and long life.I believe there is a new compound on the way - softer & quicker on the track
Eagle F1s are a great road tyre but woeful if pushed hard on the track, they just overheat and fall apart, much like T1Rs.
Good advice from the above.
From previous years, I was never impressed with T1-Rs - the side wall is way too soft.
FYI I am running Nankangs on my Mx5 (needed a set of 4 pronto when I bought it) - they last the best part of 4 laps and they overheat. They also cause massive understeer!

Try a set of Kumho KU36s.
I have tried, RS2, AD08, R888, A048, T1R. I bought these for a Civic R EK9, weight is 1050kg, 205/50/15, cost £260 a set from Germany, free postage. I took the car to the Ring and leaving the UK the weather was really bad, standing water and they performed alot better than i thought they would. Dry grip was excellent and over the 13 miles did not seem to go off, cannot fault them, and will continue to use them on this car, road and track.
