Recommend me a new track car?
Discussion
Chaps,
going through the usual motions, hrs of internet research to find out nothing new. thought id put it to the masses.
Id like a new track car thats fast, rwd, cheap to buy and cheap to run with 300+ bhp or 250+bhp/ton.
budget 5k ish.
I always end up back at the e36 m3 evo. Not that cheap to run but powerful, and about 1250kg when fully stripped and will drift like a mofo and put down decent times.
alternatively Id like a BEC so i can do some sprints, and learn to drive properly without abs or power brakes etc, but thats not gonna be much fun drifting id assume? And id imagine winter trackdays suck with no roof? (will be to corrected).
I rekon the BEC will win, as the cost to run it is sooo much cheaper than any tin top.
Current track car is rx8, previously had e36 m3, e46 m3 and scooy sti.
Perhaps Rx7 apart from reliability issues?

I've done the BEC thing and it's good but a bit compromised. My current MR2 Roadster TTE Turbo is cheap to run and pretty quick. For sale in the classifieds as I'm planning a ground up project on another MR2 Roadster.
Out of interest what MPG do you get on track and on road ?How about an E30 BMW with E36 M3 power? You could drop an S50 in this....

compromised in what respect? Id imagine 290bhp/ton pretty epic?My rx8 is totally stock apart from new disks, CL RC6 pads, braided hoses all round. Never any fade at all with these pads.

I had an R1 engined car, probably more then 300bhp/ton. Great fun but cold and/or wet track days were utterly miserable. I also found it never got used on the road but YMMV. But in my case I had an aeroscreen so a helmet was necessary and it always negated the open top experience. My rx8 is totally stock apart from new disks, CL RC6 pads, braided hoses all round. Not sure where the brakes comment is coming from, but I've always found good pads (Carbotech XP8 on my current car), braided hoses, race fluid and std disks have worked well on every car I've tracked.
