Has anyone taken the airbags out of their daily/track toy? If so what are the insurance implications for road driving?

Yes, and as my car is insured as a modified car, all modifications have been declared & not a problem at all.

You will also need a tame MOT test centre who understands the latitude available to vehicles modified for track/competition use.

Sorry, I was forgetting about the new MOT rules.

Actually the new test is "check that the SRS/airbag light comes on with the ignition, and then clears to show there is no SRS/airbag fault" (or words to that effect) the test does not ask "is there an airbag fitted?"

Therefore all you need to do is to get the airbag wiring fitted with a "cheat" resistor (normally 2.2ohms IIRC) and then get the codes reset.

Mine passed like this (dash removed & completely different steering wheel with no space for an airbag, and obviously no pre-tensioners fitted) and my MOT tester is a really finnicky git! He even got the new rules out to check.
