What are people's experiences of javelin and other track day organisers?

I only ever booked with easy track and now track action online and just can't fault them - always well organised, safe and exciting days. And now trackaction online give free 30 minute instruction! Unbelievable really, just looked on MSV's website and they appear to charge £250 for an hours instruction!

Anyway, I want to book another td now and javelin have a few theat look tempting. Well run days? Free instruction?

I've only done one javelin one and it was very poor, not their organisation but there were a lot of people driving sheds that broke, spat out oil on the track and frankly ruined it for us. It may have been an exception for all I know but won't be doing one again.

We mainly do BookaTrack ones now, well organised and much better quality of vehicle on the track so you are less likely to spend time trying to get past someone who can't use their mirrors before their shed gives up on them.

Having looked on javelins website where does it stipulate sheds olny?

Done well over a dozen days with them, never had a problem, never come across a oil spitting broken down shed either.

Wow, you are right, it doesn't! Amazing! You really would have thought they would say that wouldn't you?

Well good luck to you, I have at the one I went to it got red flagged five or six times for that, and primarily I guess they get them because they are cheap. The do very few over £200 (although that Donnington one is an exception) whereas BaT rarely do one under £200. At the risk of sounding snobbish the cheaper the track day the higher the proportion of low standard cars participating.

Most red flags I see are always at Oulton and that's obviously MSVT, sometimes from people running out of talent and sometimes mechanical failure. Javelin have always been good in my experience. They can't be totally blamed for car or driving standards unless the offenders are obviously causing a problem. It would be the same case anywhere and with any TDO.

Javelin take a bit of stick on here but they organise more UK trackdays than any other company apart from MotorSportVision, so they can't be that bad.

interesting input!

my view is that:
- Javelin do a good job for the money, Sunday will be my 3rd track day with them and so far no complaints. I've not used another company to compare because it has been to my expectations.
- Javelin are easy to book, website works, plenty of days on offer, not crazy prices, no issues signing the forms off, getting sound tested and onto the track.
- I've always rented a garage to dump spare wheels/tools etc from the car and felt more secure leaving stuff. Shared with a mate it isn't too expensive.
- I would contest that the price of the day is not a significant factor on the price of machinery in attendance, certainly from the range at the 2 days seen so far
- it seems that the track location/day of the week influenced the attendance mix more

anyway I'm looking forward to Sunday, hopefully the weather stays dry and the car/driver runs well!

I have done many days with Javelin and they all have been very good.
Colin is always around if you have any problem.
You will get some red flags especially in some circuits more than others but that is with all TDO's. There is always someone pushing there limits too far on all track days.

Eduardo.

To be fair I have done a few track days with Javelin and have never really had a problem, I have used many others including the likes of MSVT, Book a track etc etc. And I don't really see much difference between them. The cars that turn up are those who have paid, they cant really vet cars prior to the day.
I think its good that they put a list on the website of who is going and what they are driving so you can have some idea of what is happening prior to turning up.
You say 'sheds' perhaps a little snobbish, looking at the lists can you identify the cars which will be 'sheds' and cause red flags during the day? Ill probably be up there as im local and want to get some practice with my camera so if you can let me know which cars you expect to cause the problems I will see if I can get some photos and shame them smile

I think that there are a few issues with track days.

Firstly the problem with the cheaper days is that they will tend to attract people on low budget. Now there is nothing wrong with that, sometimes those with a small budget are very good, have prepared their car well and are running cars as reliable and as fast as those who spend a lot more. But unfortunately you also get those who have bought something for hardly anything, put it out on the track with little prep and have it spew it's fluids over the track after a few laps.

Those, to me, are the sheds.

But that's not what it's all about, the main issue with a track day is not to be with too many unequal cars. Of course there will be a range, but if you are driving something relatively slow and everything is trying to get past, you are spending half your time looking at the next one appearing in the rear view mirror, that's not fun. But nor is it following something much slower, hogging the line, not moving over to let you past, no fun in that either.\

So a good track day is one that works for you, the 'shed' issue is a problem on some days at the cheaper end, but beyond that it is about being with other cars of a similar nature.

Was there yesterday, apart from being really busy, thought it was well organized. Would like to see maybe a few blue flags being waved.

I was timing a few cars from the pit wall to get an idea, the E36 M3s (race cars) where fast, 1:24 is the last time i have from them, the E36 M3 road car was stripped inside was doing 1.31, our Civic EK9 did 1.28.

Did see the RS26R going round. There was a Clio Sport 200 on Slicks (race car) that was going really well.

All in all, a great first track day of the year.

the clio was rapid, and the race M3's, my track prepped but road legal E36 323i managed 1.30's and kept up with the road legal M3 on the straights, and was better on the brakes. not bad considering i had £50 primewell tyres on biggrin

love the track, best track day i've done

i've started to put some videos up, first one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjxF_x42tgg&lis...

the megane was quick but had an off round the top - the lotus 340r was rapid in a straight line, but struggled to brake and was off a few times.

Blue flags would have been helpful - mainly for the bookatrack caterhams that sat on the left hand side of the straights going very slowly - MOVE OVER!!!

Ginettas were interesting to follow and a little cheeky when passed - don't think they liked a £1300 '97 BMW coming past haha

Which car were you bud? It was quite a busy day over subscribed really. I've booked with bookatrack for 4th of April back at Donington, limited numbers so no waiting in the pit lane to get out on an open pitlane day!

That 340R looked so fast!

There was a white Ginetta going round which would not let me passed, even when i moved out to over take he blocked me off. I only have 190hp in the little Civic so get done by everything on the straights but kept up with the Ginetta.

Need more power frown
