R888s in the rain are no fun, in fact downright dangerous!

Thinking of getting a second set of wheels to swap to if its wet.

question is: What tyre gives most grip in the wet?

If they have plenty of tread and there's no standing water as long as you can get heat into them, I think they are quite good personally.
Standing water though, they are lethal.

A539s?

Racing wets. No road tyre gets enough heat on a wet track to generate significant grip, tracks tend to be a lot less grippy / coarse than roads.

Hitched a passenger lap in a clio cup on racing wets, probably as much grip as I have in the dry. Incredible. But of course not road legal.

Need them to be road legal sadly frown

R888 soft compound with road type water dispersing tread would be ideal, shame they don't exist!

Michelin Pilot Super Sport or ADO8R both look ok but guessing no where near as soft?

For my wet wheel/tyre set up I just use the best road tyres I can find with around 50% tread depth left.

This normally equates to Conti sport contact 3 or 5.

I have Toyo R1-Rs on my daily MR2.
I have had no aquaplaning issues.

pilot supersports are very impressive in the wet, on a wet snetterton there was nothing keeping up with my megane 250 on new supersports

Cheers for replies so far,

Federal's 959RS Track day tyre apparently has good water dispersion and wet grip, anyone tried ?

RSRs are quite good in the wet but still don't like standing water. I use Toyo R1Rs for wets and they are very good.

If you can get them to fit, Avon CR28 Sport are a great full wet tyre - nice soft compound, lots of tread to disperse water, not quite up to a full track wet but not far off and road legal too.

As one other above, suggest the Michelin Pilot Super Sports - got them on a GT3 RS and 458 Itallia and constantly rave about them. Find they are almost as good as the 595RSRs/ 888s in the dry and miles ahead in the wet. They don't go off either, something every other track day focused tyre I've had does after 15-20 minutes.

Price wise they aren't bad at all and you won't be disappointed despite the rather conventional looking tread pattern...
