Hi
Im attending a silverstone track day with a 105db static noise limit... whats the exact drive by going to be.

I will pass the static very easily but my cars pretty loud on drive by due to external waste gates.

I'm not sure that Silverstone measure drive by sound, even though they probably should. I'm in a similar boat and have put up a thread on other forums to try and get a list of tracks that don't measure the drive by's.

Damn, just seen this

brands, oulton, cadwell, snetterton and silverstone all ok for most cars unless you have a 360 challenge stradale. Donington - really bad unless its a noisy day and they don't come up that often, i got chucked off for induction noise on a M3. bedford - you need an electric powered car
You can knock Silverstone off that list. Their new meter on the wing pits straight has me doubting my own sanity. Our car reads 103db on it's internal silencer and 96db with an additional external one. That's at 1/2m on Oulton's sound gear (no issues there). We were first flagged for 109db drive by in the morning and they wanted to send us home there and then. After a 5 minute sustained bking (I'm not exaggerating) from the noise man, we managed to convince them to let us fit the add-on silencer that we've never needed before at Silverstone. We then manage nigh on 40 laps and get into the afternoon no probs with the add-on before being black flagged again, then getting gleefully sent home by the noise man. He genuinely seemed to be enjoying his power trip, topping it off by being obnoxious and downright rude.

So our car was perfectly fine for nearly 40 laps, then tripped it again at a barely believable 108.5db and that's your lot... I'm genuinely not sure how that works.

Loads of cars sent home that day. Many Porsches. Personally if you think you're even in the slightest bit noisy, I'd steer clear of Silverstone now. You just can't afford to waste nigh on a grand for a day out that depends on whether or not the noise meter man had a shag or not last night.'

Rob's M400 with loud exhaust was fine. However I doubt their new drive-by meter hugely and wouldn't risk it if you think you might trip it.

EDIT: In fact my rant is included in the above post *thumbs up* So I've cut it out of this one.

Was at donington park today, on drive by my radical SR3 was measured at 92 lowest and 94 highest, so I know I'm sorted for drive by it's the static test that has me worried

Did Bedford yesterday. 101 dB static. Thanks to a damp cloudy morning and the test being done next to a building, all but two in the TVR group failed, despite bolt on cans, as did a Dyson GT3 RS that normally never has a problem (not being rude - the Porsche just had a really quiet engine, cross between a dishwasher and a flymo)..

I admit I was expecting to be close, but I think they started doubting their own equipment and put it down to the weather, as they decided to allow us all on track and rely on their drive by meters, which are set to 87.5 IIRC. I must give credit to the MSV noise testers - they were using their brains and their ears.

It really is a power track, lots of max revs, yet only one person to my knowledge got pulled for a chat during the day, and he was allowed to continue. And to be frank, I have heard a lot noisier cars at other tracks.

Doesn't answer your question, but I will be looking for some tail pipe inserts to go with my bolt on cans. As has been said, we don't want to spend our time and money on fee and travel and not get to run.

ETA, an Exige did get sent home on the drive by. Odd that - Silverstone uses Exiges for Experience Days.

Ive failed the drive by at silverstone before at a registered 105db, Ive found that the drive bys there are set to 102db regardless of the static noise test required for each day... my car records under 98db on a static test as I have unsilenced external wastgates so you need boost to open them which you can't do on a static test.

Ive bitten the bullet and decided to get the car modified to have an additional silencer for this track day... I can then run with or without.

cheers for all the feedback
