Anybody know or belong to a track-day car club. Me and a friend have been going along to Castle Combe action days but want to attend some proper track days as the driving on the action days is questionable.

I have tried to register at Talk-Torque but with no luck frown

It used to be a very busy forum but not so much these days. You are dare i say it as well of asking questions in here etc, take all advice given with a Pinch of salt and all that :-)
If you have a certain make of car try the owners club, several have a great track following for example Mx5, Renault Clio if not seek out a Facebook group like Track Time or Trackday Talk.
  • just noticed you have a blue oval so i am sure there must be a track club / forum group catering for you make **

Thanks for the reply,

Yes I am indeed a blue oval fan but I was hoping to get away from the single make clubs as they can be a little blinkered and also my friend has an Elise and another an MR2 so would like to be able to invite those guys as well.

I have been to Keevil a number of times and last year I went along to a Castle Combe track afternoon and the driving was so much better.

Personally, this is the busiest forum I've found for track day talk.

Most clubs & busy forums are make-specific and run occasional track days for their members/make eg Ford, Lotus, etc

Are you just wanting to find track days in your local area?

I know what you are saying. I own a TVR, love track days, and am happiest going along to track days with at least two friends - the most was 10 TVRs, and it was huge fun. The reality is you probably do 2-3 hours driving in an entire day, so the rest of the time is spent chatting and sorting each other's cars out.

Your problem, living in the south west, is the lack of local tracks. Castle Combe, I am told, is lovely. Thruxton days are rare, Llandow is available in south Wayels. And there's Goodwood. Most tracks are in the midlands and the east. To be honest, two things make for a great track - corners and contours. A poll on PH found Oulton Park (Cheshire) and Cadwell Park (Lincolnshire ) to be amongst the best liked.

Your problem is distance, which adds to the cost. I haven't been to Combe for that reason and because of noise limits. What we need is a club so that we put each other up the night before (and possibly after) to make the more distant tracks possible.

I used to post on there, but gave up after a bit. I looked on it the other day and it`s pretty much dead now.

This forum probably has a lot of knowledge and doesn`t seem blighted by the people who argue black is white for no good reason who seem to inhabit many other sections on PH nowadays.

OPL was pretty active a few years ago but has slacked off, these things tends to get a following of enthusiastic members who after a year or two either go on to racing or get married and have kids wink.

We still have our regulars on Trackaction-Online but it's basically a bunch of mates who like doing trackdays and running the occasional event, always looking for any enthusiastic additions!

There are a few tracks in the South West (some closer than others!):

Thruxton
Coombe
Abingdon
Hullavington
Keevil
Colerne
Pembrey
Llandow

All within an hour and a bit from Bristol.

Get out there!
