Has anyone done one of these? I only manage about 3 or 4 tracks days a year so fancy one of these to really up my driving skills and track ability. It's a bit of money, but equally you get 1:1 tuition all day (I'm thinking of doing this at Bedford). I've booked tuition before and found it invaluable (20 minutes sessions) - so has anyone booked one of these and how did you find it?

What other options are there in the Midlands area? I've heard of a few advanced driving instructors that you can book and get to drive around an airfield, not sure of any names though...

I'd suggest that you would do as well by hiring an instructor for the day instead, you get to choose who you actually get that way.

Completely agree. While I can see the attraction of a structured course etc, the reality is that a good instructor will really tailor to your needs, rather than just follow a prescribed format.

I'm thinking of racing this year and have just hired the guy who has won the championship I plan to race in for the last 4 years, just happens to be a very well known and highly regarded instructor as well. Cost is less that the cheapest MSVT Academy day.

Thanks for the input. As I understand, MSVT have a list of drivers on their books, who basically work as contractors. They are ARDS approved racing drivers and they'll appoint one according to area, car type and availability. You get sent a questionnaire on the track academy so you discuss up front what you are after and it is informal and not pre-subscribed on the day as to what you'll be doing - they won't be following a script.

If you deduct the cost of the track day, and passenger cost, you'll basically have about £280-£300 for the driver for the day. If anyone can send me info on how I can get hold of and discuss requirements with drivers that I can book myself that would be great. Feel free to PM if that's easier.

Anyone got Jason Potatoes number?!

I don't think you'd get him for £300 wink but there will be some very good options of that kind of pay, you have PM.

Could you send me some details too? Been thinking about a day or so with an instructor at Oulton.
