Birthday's coming up and I need to lay down some heavy hints/leave webpages open, leaflets lying around etc. for a good track/driving experience. I'm not that interested in 'Drive a Ferrari' type days, I'd rather fly round in a Caterham or Formula Renault or similar.

I'm looking ideally for one where you don't have the instructor sat next to you're alowed to actually test the limits of the car etc.

Can anyone recommend somewhere around Oxfordshire/Berkshire/Herts? I live near Reading and wouldn't want to travel much more than 2hrs tops as whole family (5yr old daughter included) will be coming too.

Two answers IMHO:

Palmersport.
Rent a caterham from bookatrack.

Both are £££ but good value for money (vs spending a lot less on something barely worth doing)

Rent a Caterham R300 from Bookatrack and share with a mate. 1 session of instruction (20 mins) is included in the price.

That will keep the cost down.

Not sure if 5 year-olds are allowed at track days though (i.e. can't be on site)?

Typically they are fine to come along and can spectate round the circuit but no under 16s in the pitlane.

Would that be purely the pitlane or usually garages/paddock too? I was assuming the latter.

Pamersport is second to none.

Best day ever.

They push you HARD! Ended up going much much faster than I thought I was capable of going.

Just pitlane normally, no problem with paddock and garages.
