Well, these don`t come up very often !

A trackday at the Ring, full OpenPitlane event run by Circuit Days on Friday 8th April 2016.

Not unusual in itself, but what makes this really appealing is the fact Javelin are running Trackdays on the Wed & Thu at Spa. Goldtrack is also running one at Spa on Sat 9th at Spa if you really want to maximise your tracktime .

To me, a big part of the cost of these European trackdays is the travel to get there in the first place, with the Ferries and fuel then a several hour trek across Europe.

If I`m already there to do a Ring Trackday, the option to tag a Spa day on just makes the trip so much more appealing

Chris is offering a discount on the Ring trackday of £399 until 1/1/2016, then the price will increase to £499.

Booking can be done as usual on the Circuit Days website http://circuit-days.co.uk/

My plan is to take the Golf, do Spa with Javelin on the Thursday, maybe Wednesday if I can sort out work, then the Ring on Friday, back home on Saturday.

I know the weather can be changeable in April. I`ve been there over Easter in the past when it`s snowed, rained or been glorious sunshine in the high 20`s.

The thing is, you never see these Spa / Ring Trackdays back to back in the summer, so I can`t wait for a July one in the hope of better weather even if I wanted to.

Anyone else fancy joining me ?

This is very tempting, been wanting to do Spa/Ring trackday combo for years. Bit of man-maths required to finance it.

A quick look says 3 x nights hotel, ring day, spa day looks like £900 ish plus ferry. Then consumables on top.

Looks very tempting, I will have to have a look into it.

I`m likely to be on the same crossing. Classed as a `5 Day Return` so for me, with trailer it`s £380. Hull is under an hour and a half away, but Dover is more like 5. By the time I`ve factored in the fuel and the fact I`m sat in the car for another 4 hours each way on this side an almost an hour on the other side, it just makes more sense for us.

Staying local to Spa on Tuesday and Wednesday then just over an hour to the Ring on Thursday evening ready for Friday biggrin

I`m already booked on the Circuit Days Ring event, but wanted to see if I could make Spa on the Wednesday AND Thursday or just Thursday. Guy at work is just checking he`s available to cover me on the Wednesday and as soon as he confirms, I`ll get Spa booked too thumbup

A bit of snow is ok, but sometimes there's just too much

Booked with CD for the Ring, but unlikely to book Spa (not a big fan of Javelin), will pop by and try to get a PAX lap off you though.

its over the school holidays so my kids and partner are coming. Two cars (can't get us all in the Exige) with a four bed cabin was £360 return. We could be sensible and tow the Lotus but this way the missus can stretch the legs of her car on the road trip and in part justify its existence doing what it was built to do! biggrin

Interested in this, more for the Spa days if I'm totally honest, just a bit worried about the weather at that time of year!

I last did Spa at Easter 2011, it was T-Shirt weather in the Pitlane and the track conditions were perfect.

UKKid35 posted a photo from Easter 2013 when it was a little cooler.

Javelin were at Spa last March and it was Glorious yet 3 days later when RMA (I think it was RMA) ran a day, it was absolutely bouncing it down.

I suppose what I`m saying is that yeah, it`s a bit of a gamble. An obvious statement I know, but it`s why the days are cheaper than ones in July or August. There is a greater chance of cold/wet weather, but that`s the risk you take if you book this time of year.

I went to the ring for several years over Easter and we had a higher percentage of dry trips than Snowy ones.

Although to be fair, we did have Snow when camping...
biggrin

Yes less than 7 days later it had all gone !

There is no right or wrong answer, I wish there was! wink. From my own Easter experiences since 2007, it`s more likely to be sunny and dry but there is a small chance of rain and a lesser chance of snow. How`s that for a non-committal answer laugh

I'll either be in the pink Cerb or the totally inappropriate 30 year old 928, either way I'll be looking for a PAX ride in your Exige...

Any other drivers want to share their car / photo ? wink

Just spoken to Chris and he`s confirmed the first hour will be a `sighting lap hour` Rather than follow a pace car as on a usual trackday, it isn`t feasible on the ring. I`ve tried it before, but it doesn`t work.

What Chris is doing is the first hour ie 08:00 to 09:00, will be a sighting session pace, but NO overtaking. It gives you the opportunity to drive the circuit, spot the marshall posts, jump in with a mate and point out any corners / danger spots / lines without worrying about being slow.

At 09:00 the circuit goes `live` and wherever you are, overtaking is allowed, on the left only of course and the pace is increased.

I`ve experienced this format on Destination- Nurburgring days and it works well

Is it possible to have a bit more information on this?

I have not driven on N'ring (or a track day before) so would not like to spoil anyone's day, but is this a closed circuit or?

A friend and I (both British) live a few hours from the ring and were planning to head down in April / May for a normal track session, either in one of our cars or a hired 'track car'.

I am wondering if this day would be quieter whether we would be better suited to join this rather than a normal tourist day?

Thanks in advance and feel free to PM..

It will certainly be much quieter than normal TF !

The circuit is fully marshalled and there is a detailed briefing regarding overtaking rules and driving standards.

I would STRONGLY recommend you book some instruction. It`s not compulsory, but is something you`ll really benefit from.

Don`t turn up expecting to be the quickest there, just drive and enjoy yourself. So long as you use your mirrors, signal and move over when you see a car approaching, build up slowly and drive within you limits you`ll be fine smile

Drop Chris an email or ring him for more info and to discuss it if you aren`t sure.

Thanks for the response, I will discuss with my friend!!

Haha I am under no illusion, unless someone breaks down I am happy to be the slowest there, all part of the learning curve isn't it.

I would certainly take up any offer of instruction, guidance and knowledge.

Interesting about he volume of traffic, is this a regular event?
