Helmet questions
Discussion
I've done a few track days now, and have up to now hired helmets on the day, but now it's time to buy my own.
I done some research and read the threads on here and discovered the following:
I need a full face (I drive a Boxster S)
A good fit is very important I need to try the different helmets on as the fit will vary. So buying online / mail order is not a good idea.
It's better to get a proper car (motorsport) helmet than a bike helmet.
Sadly life is a compromise and I can't find anywhere near me in Leeds where I could go a try car helmets on. There are plenty of places that I can try motorcycle helmets.
So the main question is - which is better, a well fitting an comfortable bike helmet or taking pot luck on buying a car helmet online?
Thoughts anyone?

You will find some saying that the construction of bike helmets is different to car ones but I've never seen anything to back that up. A quality car helmet will have a fire proof lining which a bike helmet won't but unless you are wearing a fire proof suit, boots, gloves etc that may be a pointless upgrade for most trackdayers!
Personally I'd be happier with a good quality, well fitting bike lid than a basic spec, poor fit or unknown make car lid.

As its for occasional use, you could always go a little mad and have some bespoke artwork:

I have just bought a cheap full face skid lid with built in sunshades to replace my current lid as its getting on.
I only chose full face, so I can use it for Karting and other motorsports.
