Track day car suggestions EP3/M3/R26 etc
Discussion
First post. So hello!. Recently sold an M135i which I thoroughly enjoyed, was stage 2 with the 8 speed. Idea was to cut monthly spends. We have a RRS HST which, as nice as it is to drive, doesn't really excite! Plus its a bit of a pain having just the one car to be honest. So... I'm going to buy a road legal track day car, would be stripped, buckets, coilovers, brakes etc. I live 20 mins from Cadwell so will do as many as I can there. My shortlist is (pretty much in order of preference)
EP3 Type R. I had a JRSC one years ago and loved it. I'd buy one that's already had the big $ jobs done and would love a turbo one
E46 M3 Would be a work in progress and at the cheaper end of the scale
Megane R26 F1 Again probably exhaust etc already done, never been in one but hear good things
B5 S4 Maybe a bit heavy for Cadwell? Sound amazing and easy to extract power from
Evo...? maybe a 5 or something, but am I buying problems?
E36 M3 Had a 328i drifter and a Schnitzer S3, seem to be priced all over!
Anything obvious I have overlooked? Thoughts and opinions welcome.

E36 M3. Quick, lighter than a 46, not too costly, good car to strip/lighten etc, lots of bits available, rwd.
R26. Good fun fwd, quick. Track biased but road-usable.
E46/CTR. Both capable cars but for me not as desirable as the options above (very much personal preference I guess)
Evo. Pretty costly to run as a track car, not particularly satisfying as a drivers car (IMO again!).
S4. As a trackday car? Seriously?
Other options?
Clio? A 200 is a pretty great bit of kit out of the box, would be very nice with a few basic mods.....
Porsche? Boxster/968/Cayman all go well and are good on track but probably more costly to run than a lot of the other options.
You could go the Caterham/Westfield route and just have a £1k junker as an "official" second car, you can get a practical run-around for that kind of money. More running costs for an extra car but depending on how many trackdays you do you could save a lot back on the track running costs on the se7en.
