Track day insurance
Discussion
Morning all,
Probably a question that's been asked numerous times...
First track day next week at Bedford, and being quoted circa £100 for track insurance. Does this sound like around the going rate, and if so, any companies to avoid or go with?
Car is a 2009 Boxster 987 worth circa £19K.
Thanks in advance.
Dan

I think its about the going rate, cant remember which companies are best sorry.
Only real advice I can give is if you are planning on making the track days a regular thing then maybe switch your normal insurer. I get cover for TDs for £35 a time with my road insurer as part of my policy (Greenlight Insurance)

You'd be hard pressed to crash it heavily at Bedford
Everyone said that to me before my first visit a couple of weeks ago. However, I did see a car in what looked like two seperate halves, against the grass bank. In reality, it looked like a Locost 7 which might just have had the engine cover knocked off. ....and I saw well over £10,000 worth of damage to an Exige at Cadwell Park, but it could have been any circuit.
Geezer in a Rover 75 carved straight across the hairpin and into the Lotus. The Lotus driver had track day insurance.
My regular road insurer covers my car on track days, but with an excess of 10% of the value of the entire car.

If you are a member of PCGB then the club insurance scheme covers track days run by PCGB and other approved TDOs as part of the policy.
For my 2009 Boxster it cost slightly more than my previous insurer but works out cheaper if I do a couple of track days a year.
In my (admittedly limited) experience PCGB track days are a good place to start on track; they are very well run and everyone is very well behaved, reducing the chance of serious mishap.
