Fairly new to trackdays, done two so far at Donington and Oulton park. Before the first day I did a bit of brake prep and replaced my discs (they were lipped anyway) pads (mintex 1802's) and fluid (srf).

I've seemingly munched through the pads already, there's about 5mm left. The car is a Lotus Elise S3, which I assumed would be quite conservative on its consumables.

The brakes have performed brilliantly (I'm my inexperienced opinion) no fade and plenty of bite once warm. But is this level of wear normal or are the mintex a particularly short life pad? Want to get some options before I bung another set of mintex on there.

I can see where they've gone, my silver wheels come back powder coated black at the end of each day biglaugh

5mm left makes me think roughly 50% worn which sounds like moderate to slightly high wear for two days depending on how many laps you were getting in.

It’s not a crazy wear rate but you may want to try a different compound or brand when you do change them, Mintex F4R compound work/last well so may be worth a go.

The new Mintex pads are total crap (I think what you have is equivalent to the old 1144 which was a fast road pad).

I had some M1166 equivalents on my race car and they were down to the backing pad after one 40 minute race (for context, a set of Performance Friction pads would last me close to a full season).

I wrote to Mintex to complain but alas I got no response.

If you can't find the old ones (the M series pads) or the F series, don't bother with Mintex

We tracked a S3 Elise for 5 years about 10 a year plus road miles, the standard drilled discs are not good and when hot munch through standard pads comparatively to the weight of the car.
We moved to Alcon rotors with c shape on face with CL5+ pads and went through 2 sets of rotors and 4 sets of pads in that time, whilst a bit of investment up front the cost in use was significant and performance was much much better
