My friend has just got himself a very heavily modified TVR Wedge. He only wants it for the noise so isn't too interested in any trackdays, but I was wondering if there's anywhere in the UK that would take him?

It's 98dB on idle and a LOT louder (I'm thinking in the region of 115dB - I could still hear him when he was over 3 miles away on the A1 after he left my house on Saturday) when under load.

Silverstone 'noisy' day courtesy of Goldtrack?

Believe Donnington is also relatively noise friendly....

nono Donnington is not especially noise friendly. 98Db drive-by IIRC and if you trigger the meter the council (or someone of equal "importance" rolleyes) is notified automatically. They then come down in an A-Team style van and jump out the back armed with cardigans and clipboards to give the offender the talking to of his life. (ok the a-team bit maybe a tad made up)

I think they have a few noisy days, but not sure how many or, if any, what the limit is.

I can't see even a noisy day being over 115db, It's not worth them upsetting the NIMBY's!

There's an airfield track day on 14th/15th April at RAF Marham, near Snetterton that has no noise limits - £100 for 2 days or £60 per day.

I think he'd do a lot better revving up in car parks or whatever it is he does with it...

He got pulled last weekend by a copper standing on the corner. He wasn't speeding, but plod wasn't happy with the volume. He got a sound meter down to him - 123dB!!!!

He was told that under section 9 something of the RTA they could get a VOSA rep down and take the car immediately! He's now looking for a re-packable muffler hehe

ETA - Melindi: I can't wait for him to get the muffler - He tried not to rev it when he visits, but my neighbours can't be happy - maybe I need to take him to the woods in the middle of nowhere so he can rev it

Well, there is a definate reduction in noise, and no noticable adverse impact on power.
I've taken them out, and will ask the guys at CC if they would be able to do a before and after sound test tomorrow.

It is a decent exhaust for what he wants. Not really what I (or anybody else I know) would have, but it floats his boat.

Just back from a great day at Castle Combe (100db max limit) - all in aid of charideee.

I decided to have the noise test "au naturel", with the Cherry Bombs.
Sadly, this produced results of 107db yikes
With my new "insert" silencers 103db - still too high.
I added some "muffler" silencers, acquired from Merlin Engineering down at the track, clipped on to the outside (as well as the inserts) 96db bounce - so it can be done!

Yes, Jelli, im a bit of a cynic myself - but, there is no denying that the Cherry Bombs add a little volume, and it was a charity day. I'm now fixed up with as much silencing as i will need for any track (hopefully)

I only have rear cherry bombs and likely way over 110 - 115! No tracking for me unless I put some baffle over the end (made some for a Sprint) - then gradually take the plats out throughout the day - last run 1 or no plates - what are they going to do - Ask you to leave..............
