i was at the ring last week on the friday in a 205 gti. i was wondering if anyone else had lapped the ring in a 1.9 gti and what time they did it in. It was my first ever lap so BTG was 10.41. I am thinking that the car is capable of lapping at around 9.30. Any laptimes for a standard 205? Goiing back in three weeks in an r300 so planning on beating that time by miles!!

"On Touristenfahrt you can never win, only lose."

What a Nurburgring marshal told me many years ago when I was a Ring noob, wearing a stopwatch round my neck.

Gary from www.northloop.co.uk has done an 8.52 BTG on film.
You'll have to go some to get a Pug round there faster than him!

Excellent lap, looked like you were running out of power on the uphill sections but with 130 superb. Imagine with nearer 160-170?

The car has run quicker with pilot cup sport tyres but they are not worth the money in comparison to the £28 A539's I am using in that video.

The beauty about my 205 is that in the 3 years it has been lapping it has been very reliable (other than a gearbox which was my own fault). If I put 160bhp (Mi16 or suchlike) into it no doubt it would break down more often and that's no good to me. I need a cheap turn key car that I turn up and drive.

It will be for sale soon

getting a good time in a less powerful car is all about keeping the speed up, which is a real challenge when you dont know the circuit to well (i cant rely on what my brain is telling me!).i kept with a german r32 for about a mile (on the way down to adenau bridge) but he left me on the hill back up! i really enjoyed the car (my passenger's)and can see why you get so much pleasure out of driving one. it was first time in the car apart from some motorway driving and was suprised how good it was for a 1989 car!
