Trackday at Croft in October anyone?
We have just had the best trackday ever!
I am thinking of running another in October.. same format as usual but with lots more tracktime than you normally get with Crofts own in-house days.. and the benefit that the organiser (me) sorts out all the Jack the Lads so you know who you will be out there with.
Please let me know if you would be up for it, I need to test the water before I commit the club to a six grand bill.
For those of you that dont know about us I have copied below the blurb from last Mondays event.

Nick
Croft Trackday. Monday, July 9th, 2007
Would any of you like to come along to my trackday?
The 50 places I have are nearly all gone now but I am prepared to save a handful of them for the TT Forum.. but you must act fairly quickly as I am sure the phone will be red hot when the June club journal hits the doormat.
Although it will be predominantly BMW based I don't mind at all if you don't have one.. all I am interested in is the driver, not the car.
This is not your regular boy racer day. This is a day for grown up thinking car enthusiasts that can demonstrate a high degree of respect for one anothers driving abilities. I cater for all skill levels and abilities. Racing cars are welcome but I am afraid I can't take any open wheeled stuff.
You don't need to bring any sandwiches either.. nor put up with expensive on site catering. I have an arrangement with Barry at The Chequers who's efficient staff can turn us around inside the hour that the circuit is closed.
Hot drinks can be had all day.. the monies raised go into next years event.. likewise the raffle. Tickets are £1.. they are only sold on the day.. someone there will win a free trackday!
Your driving will be monitored throughout the day.. this keeps me on top of whats happening in case someone needs bringing in.. but it also makes it easier to sort out The Driver of the Day.. the winner of which gets a nicely etched crystal trophy.
So all in all.. its a right bargain at £140 for an open pit lane event. Factor in that the entry is capped to 50.. top class instruction is provided FOC.. and the organisation that runs it have been doing it longer and better than anyone else.. how can you not come?
Thanks for reading,
Nick
here comes the blurb..
The BMWCC will be holding its 12th annual mid-summer trackday at Croft Circuit on Monday, July 9th.
Highly experienced driving instructors including many with experience of testing at the Nurburgring will be on hand offering their services free of charge.
The number of cars attending is strictly limited to 50 so as to maximise the enjoyment for those who are making use of Crofts challenging layout.
Price for the day is £140 per car and driver, passengers will need to pay £20, spectators and guests are encouraged to come along free of charge.
The event is for BMW Car Club members and their guests.
The day is being run by voluntary members as a Club venture and is not a profit making event, hence the value for money price quoted.

The price per car will be a tenner dearer at £150. But I'm restricting the entry to 30 and running two groups of 15. It will be like having the circuit to yourself!
What with all the wet weather we are having right now spoiling the fun at trackdays.. you could do worse than book a late season one like this.. I think it will be a cracker, don't miss out.

if its an open pit lane then I will try to make it.
Have to wait and see how well my new car does on the Nurburgring first of all.
Croft always seems to do sessioned track days. I'm sure people who go to trackdays in the first place are able to cope with faster cars overtaking them. Open pit lanes are the way to go and to ensure good attandance at trackdays.

No.. this one is sessioned. Just two groups though with only 15 in each group!.. thats like having the circuit to yourself.. we may be allowed to go open pit in the afternoon.Have to wait and see how well my new car does on the Nurburgring first of all.

With regards to Croft. I always do our annual event open pit lane there.. but I pay for it.. about a grand more than a quiet day.
Croft suffer more than most circuits with the local authority and sound pollution regulations. They run a noise 'credit' system.. for every noisy day they must have a couple of quiet ones and no activity at all just after a race meeting.
This day that we are doing on the 10th of October has to be very quiet and they will only let me put 15 cars out at once.. a regular trackday firm would not make any money.. but us clubbies that do it for love can scrape through. The circuit is costing us £4k plus vat.. and with 30 drivers paying £150 there will be a shortfall unless I can sell lots of raffle tickets and passenger rides.
..so thats why the bookaeasygoldtrack firms do sessions.. cheaper track hire + more punters = extra profit.
Hope that makes sense.

Yeah that does make sense.
The problem being not with the people who organise the tracks or the track owners themselves,.... but the STUPID SELFISH HOME OWNERS who buy a house next to a RACE TRACK and then lobby to close it down !!
It is a problem that is all over the UK. Money hungry home owners who think their house price will increase if they close the near by track or airfield that has been there well before they were even born !!
Sorry to go off on one there but thought it had to be mentioned again.
A two sessioned track day is a good compromise. I will definitely look into my funds to see if I can afford it after I return from the N'Ring. 10th October is right next to my birthday also !!

Was up at Croft last weekend (22/07) on the Croft sessioned track day. Bloody brilliant, until recently I was never a fan of sessioned track days... but I'm coming round to it now. It does prevent massive traffic jams and a procession of cars.
One issue with Croft is that they run a 20 min session followed by 15 min break due to "noise regs" which does get a bit frustrating, but gives me time to fettle my aging Pug 205 !

Anyone can come.. I am more interested in the driver than the car.
This is a day for grown up thinking individuals who can demonstrate a high degree of respect for one another regardless of vehicle or driving ability.
Pugs are good.. period.. sorted 205's especially so.
..and there 'aint no waiting between sessions.. as one lot come in the other go out.
If you are interested in coming and you have not been with us before then I will need to speak with you first to gain a little background information.
My e-mail is in my profile or you can call me up on 07714 805804.

How do brakes holded up round Croft, I hear e36 M3 brakes are only good for 3 or 4 laps before needing a cool off. I've got some 5.1 brake fluid to put in before hand witch should help, anything else that can help? brake pads? disconnect ABS possibly ?

Are you 100% sure about that? I was under the distinct impression that on the quiet days at croft there had to be a certain amount of downtime each hour in order to keep the average noise level down. Would love to be proved wrong as it would certainly affect my decision with regards to track days there in the future!Jonny

Suppose so if you are running Mickey Mouse pads.. a combination of good pads like Mintex 1155 and good quality discs that have been heat cycled properly will last longer than the driver before a rest is required.

Historically we have always been well under our limits as BMW's are usually well muffled. Throw a kit car or two into the mix and a couple of TVR's and it starts to get a lot louder.

Footage of our last outing at Croft on 22 Jul (sessioned track day).
For reference shift light in 4th = 100MPH
Highly recommended circuit. We think it's great in our little Pug 205.
44Mb file. Battery craps out on last lap and footage ends appruptly !

Well it was a top day.. again!
On behalf of The BMW Car Club I should very much like to thank those of you from here that came along and took part.
And yes Jonny, you can run an open pit lane 'quiet' day at Croft.. you just have to be very selective with the cars you let come. I had 40 yesterday from a Mini to a Ferrari and every sort of BMW you could wish for including Steve Sopers old E30 M3 DTM winner still in its original livery.
The weather held up as well and I managed to keep my slicks cool all day.
See you all next season
