Yesterday, thanks to the wonders of Bedford's multitrack facility, I had an epiphany.

In my garage sits a 2004 Caterham R400. The odo reads about 1400 miles. This is a scandal and condemns me as a shambolic failure.

As I was screaming up into 6th in the Palmersport JP1 only to be braking instantly and pumping down 3 gears to make a tight right, destiny was gently fondling the testicles of inevitability.

Or maybe it was genuinley powersliding their track prepared XK-R and making a mental note to send Mike Cross clandestine letters of worship, or rediscovering for the first time in 20 years that a sequential change, French flair and a huge dollop of understeer were awkward but compelling bedfellows in the definition of spectacular lunacy.

I don't know which moment of automotive ectasy it was but even now, my body is wired, buzzing with the fizzing afterglow of sheer adrenelin, delivered at levels probably never tapped before.

Christ knows how or when but I needs ARDS, ground effects and I need them yesterday.

Joy, rapture, obsession.

Conceivably one of the finest days of my life.

Let's start with slicks, a quick call to that B James fellow and more Nomex that man has ere known.

What have I been missing???

Nah, it's a bit rubbish really. I went past one at Donington on monday in my measley clubsport. Mind you my elation was dashed when I found out that it was being driven by a granny-driving washed up Ginetta racer and that my mum driving her Ford Ka could've overtaken him!!!

PS there is just the smallest chance that he might not agree with my portayal of events!
