Been running A048's on my kit car and after a trackday at knockhill I noticed that I'm still not using the full width of the tread on the tyres especially at the front. There is still 40mm of unused rubber from the edge to the centre part which is worn. The tyre pressures are about 12psi at the front and 14psi at the rear(The engine is in the back). The thing is I'm worried about letting any more air out of the tyres to improve their contact on the road surface I'm probably way below what Yokohama would recommend the lowest pressures to be but can I afford to go any lower, would the tyre be in any risk of coming off of the rim?

The car weighs in at 475Kgs. Alternatively are there any other tyres on the market which would afford the same level of grip, be road legal and be suitable for running on a lower weight car?

What pressure is that when the tyre is hot?

In my Elise on track with AO48s, I run the front tyres at around 22 psi when the tyre is hot. I would have thought with your lower weight, you could go lower still.

14 does sound low though.

Maybe you've got the car so low and stiff that you don't need as much camber?

Either too much camber or it's not being driving hard enough to utilise the camber the car's set up for. If you're mainly driving on the road you'd have less camber than on a race car for example, so one setting doesn't fit all purposes.

Id be concerned running A048s as low as 12psi personally so I certainly wouldnt go lower.
