I think just after the apex on tha banked section just before the pitts
awesome day, quite a lot of bad driving though......people not pulling over, people eventually pulling over and then nailing it as I pass them, one caterham instructor gave me the signal to pass on the left...the driver interpreted this as pull over to the left....had a really good day....just thought there were quite a few muppets there!

Just to set the record straight, ...What colour was the Caterham???awesome day, quite a lot of bad driving though......people not pulling over, people eventually pulling over and then nailing it as I pass them, one caterham instructor gave me the signal to pass on the left...the driver interpreted this as pull over to the left....had a really good day....just thought there were quite a few muppets there!
I think it was black at the back......if it was signalling left to move left then this wouldn't make a huge amount of sense as by moving left he was taking a tighter line to the apex, and so no signal required, he should just continue with the racing line..... As the car was slower than me I interpretted this as a signal for me to overtake, if he had made no signal and he had kept the line I would have not attempted to over take without his clear consent (eg signalling or pulling over to the right).....as it happens I thought the whole situation looked unclear and so I took no action and held back. I recall he went left, then suddenly right - glad I didnt take action.
Later in the day, another Caterham driver signalled for me to overtake on the right. I couldn't believe it. Again, I held back and did nothing until I could overtake safely on the left.
The guy in another caterham who put his foot down as I overtook him on the final run before you turn on to the banked wall should also be shot in my view.
Moan over - nothing against Caterhams at all by the way!

The reason I ask, is that I was the only instructor on the day, and the only Caterham I was out in was red, driven by a very quick and competent regular BaT attendee. Later in the day, another Caterham driver signalled for me to overtake on the right. I couldn't believe it. Again, I held back and did nothing until I could overtake safely on the left.

There were a few of the BaT cats out there, but with novices in them together with friends, and I think, it is likely it was one of those situations that does arise, unfortunately.
The problem being, the cars will respond quicker than their reactions, which in turn creates the problem you had.
I can only apologise on behalf of BaT, and should you experience a similar situation on any future dates, please don't hesitate to inform Jonny, or any instructor that would be working on the day, and then we can address the issue. It is everyones interests to help keep the day running smoothly, and more importantly, safely.
Hope your day was generally enjoyable!!
Hey don't worry. I apologise for assuming it was an instructor. I just saw it was not a private caterham and assumed it was under instruction.
It was a good day. I really enjoyed myself and took it easy during the morning and built up my speed throughout the day, I was also bedding in new brakes. I saw alot of odd behaviour, the most frustrating being when people tried to out accelerate me when I was overtaking to the point that I ended up entering a few bends hard on braking which is fine in my car but must have been an issue for them trying to slow down quicker than me. To the point where they ended up on top of me and probably very hard on the brakes. I just think it is common sense to throttle off when being overtaken but clearly others do not.
What would be useful is the blue flag system they use at Bedford, telling you to let the car behind overtake.
Anyway I had a good day none the less!
Cheers

I had a good day too, although got overtook by almost everything.
It was my 1st time on a track though (only done Elvington twice) and only had the car 2 months.
Oh, and I tried to pull over as quick as I could when someone flew up behind me.
Mine was the Caterham lookalike (sorry Caterham guys). Black and ali with a full cage.
Did the EVO catch fire as it was smoking just after hitting the wall?
There was also a Radical that went straight into the tyre wall just before the hair pin leading back onto the oval before turn 4.
Pat...
