I'll be there for my first track outing in my recently aquired Exige. I'll be the one tip-toeing around the track for a wee bit, mindful of my £4k insurance XS.
Cool, I've never been in an Exige - would you mind if I were to blag a ride at some point Mark? i would really appreciate it...WEREWOLF said:
Rich want me fetch those tyres?
Anybody giving pax rides?
I think I'll pass on the tyres thanks anyway Paul. I've already got a spare set of 15" speedlines ready for some slicks/semi-slicks and keep my Toyo's for the wet. I'll just be there for the morning and then shoot off at lunchtime to go to work Anybody giving pax rides?

!!Had a good time this morning in my mate's Tiger untill his front wheel bearing went and despite running around to various Halfords and Ford dealers was unable to get hold of a spare
Thanks to Mark for the superb passenger lap in his gorgeous Exige. I'd never been in a an alloy tubbed Lotus before and can now see what all the fuss is about. The grip that car found on the greasy track was amazing and Mark could certainly handle it. My sympathies go out to the black Ultima driver that suffered some light rear damage.

Rich, I think you're flattering me a bit (but that's ok!). 1st ever track day at an extremely greasy Oulton Park; bit of a baptism of fire. Druids was just outrageously slippy, probably half a dozen cars went off there, including the Ultima (backwards) which I suspect will be more than a touch up job
After reading lots of negative reports on SELOC about circuit-days efforts at Donnington I was pleasantly suprised by how smoothly it all went, although there was the (apparantly) obligatory penis driving an EVO like a complete idiot in less than ideal conditions.
Superb fun and can't wait til then next one, hopefully on a dry circuit. Will definately be back to Oulton, what a great track.

Just bear in mind what it would have been like if all the cars that were there went out on track - they couldn't and you'd have just had massive queues down the pit lane. A few people wouldn't have turned up despite paying and the track day organisers rely or a certain level of 'no shows' and today the weather was a big factor, stuff like the single seater and Radical just can't get near their potential in those conditions so they didn't seem to bother from what I saw. Add in a few mechanical failures, unfortunately like Shaun's wheel bearing and you have plenty of tracktime for the last remaining cars. If you want to see what a shambles Circuit days events can be like then find a session on a Friday before a race weekend at a circuit - lots of people using it as a cheap test session!Glad you had a good time Mark, you've got a great car there and good to see an owner not scared to treat it the way it was intended to.
Did you not get a replacement wheel bearing? I thought I saw you go out late afternoon?
I had a good day, although traction was virtually non existant....although it was good experience of driving fast on ice..
I was somewhat miffed about the mid day speech though about the standard of driving especially the 'drifting' comment. Obviously he hadn't been out on the track to experience just how slippy it was and how conditions changed per minute with the showers and wind then sunshine followed by more rain, showers heavy winds then sunshine! On one lap the track was wet but not putting up spray, then next lap going down the pits it was drenched...about 2 minutes had lapsed.
I followed one poor soul in the MR2 as he fought to keep the back in line but was accused of drifting....my passenger though he was show boating for the video camera I had fitted but I found out he had just fitted some new Pirelli P6000 hedge hunters though!
I was running Toyo 888's but whilst grip in the morning was okay, not good, once the track was constantly wet and cold I was spinning up everywhere. Had two good spins, one at Lodge and the other after the bend passed the pits.
Druids corner was a nightmare though.
Did you see the amount of smoke the RX7 was putting out...wonder if oil mist was in it also??
Couldn't be bothered to change wheels over at the end, I was wet and cold, so drove back up to the Lakes on the 888's and got a puncture over Shap....
Will definitely be back in the warmer months to see how the old Saab does when the wheels stop spinning....going up Clay Hill with front tyres spinning all the way up was fun, although frustrating when drivers were moving over to let us passed and I couldn't get anymore power down, especially as the suspension un-loads at the top.
Still, it was good fun and I dare say prompted a few raised eyebrows from the drivers I kept passing....never under estimate an old saab...

Hi Mark in Ireland
That was my rx putting the smoke out it runs a 2 stoke mix (which may a been a bit too high)but can assure you guys it was not responsible for anyone spinning off as i did more laps than anyone and never spun once.

In my 2 stroke days if I'd set the lub pump too high I'd end up with the back of my bike coated in oil, including my leathers....just a thought.

Thats because you werent going fast enough....
...no, joking apart, your car absolutely flew. What tyes did you have on? Did mean to go and have a closer look when it was in the garage but never got round to it. Certainly looked the part though.Only pics I took all day....

Now where did those little silver balls go...

To be honest i've only had the car a few days and will be de chaving it asap i think the body kit is hideous. We (that's me and my 16yr old son) only fitted the suspension off my old rx on thursday night. The engine has to run a 150/1 mix in the petrol to keep the rotor tip lubed, but as the petrol guage doesn't work as yet it was a bit guess work? Tyres in the dry were 888's mitchelin's in the wet.Regards Craig
