My girl friend wanted to buy me some time in someone else's car for my birthday. Mine seems almost never to make it to the track (last time I tried a stray bolt burst out of the camshaft housing as I approached bedford autodrome!).

Anybody done one of these?

Half a day sharing a caterham and an instructor with up to two other people. I'd probably do Donnington, as it's near to me and the one time I was there I found it tricky.

I'd sooner do something direct with the supplier in general. You'll get very limited actual driving time with this. You would be better off doing something like a track-club taster event, one of the driving experiences that U Drive Cars run or finding a friend and sharing rhe cost of a BookaTrack Caterham or track-club.com car for the day.

In all of these you're not giving some of the funds to a middleman and you're likely to get a lot more time in the actual car even if you share one.

Mmmm.... your track taster events do sound better. Are there any dates coming up?

Try Caterham direct-they run session where up to three of you share a car for a full day, you get, I think 20mins each hour in a Caterham with an instructor. I'm hoping to book next year, price was around £300 for the day which I think is very reasonable and there are a selection of circuits they visit.

On the caterham web site it seems to be £400 for the full day (or £200 for 1/2). Actually this seems alomst identical although slightly cheaper to other caterham experiences such as the one I had found. They don't do donnington but Bedford is still on my list to get to... one day!

I guess it's pretty similar value for money to the track-club event (~275 for 3/4 of a day).

The Caterham Circuit Experience referred to above is awesome value at £399. I did 2 (Brands and Bedford GT). The instruction is first rate and you can push the cars to their limits. The lessons it's given me for my subsequent infrequent track outings were invaluable.

One day I want to learn Cadwell and I'll do it via a 3rd Caterham Experience. They book up early for a reason you know ...
