Try Hague of Nottingham, they do a wide selection of quality camera mounts. I ordered mine one day and it arrived the next.

And fast films have a good range.

I've met the guy at a couple of car shows. Decent kit and a very helpful bloke runs the business.

Has anyone had any problems from Marshall's when using a suction mount? I have a platform welded onto my roll bars for a camera, but the position is a bit low. So I would like to try a suction mount and use it higher up.

all year has been fine

then i heard that MSV are thinking of changing rules to get rid of suction mounts and limit mounts to those fixed mechanically to the car.

then at Donington Goldtrack in Ocotber they said scution mounts not allowed.

So i would say solve the problem another way as i can see them becoming less frequently allowed. It seems they worry about them falling off mid lap and getting mixed up with the brake pedal and causing accidents.

The pro Hague mounts however are top notch and would never fall off, but some of the cheaper ones i have seen look like they are out of rice crispy packets!!

I've been stopped at Donington before using a suction mount (hague one...) I use a superclamp on the roll cage now.

Goldtrack routinely prohibit suction mounts. Seems like a sensible precaution really.

Hi guys, Dave from Fast Films here.

I rarely get chance to post on here anymore, so if you want to follow this up best bet is to give me a call on my mobile (listed on my website).

Yes, suction mounts with camcorders are getting stopped by more tracks these days. Some tracks/operators are ok if you use a safety tether (to prove in the event of an accident the rig can't hit you).

Your other options are -

Suction mount + bullet camera - we film all over Europe with this arrangement with very few problems. The lower weight of the cameras and mounts seem to reassure the track operators their is less risk of injury.

Roll cage mount or headrest mount (assuming you have either).

Trackday friendly suction mount - (plug alert) we developed a mount that uses suction to brace between both rear windows. So far I have used this at Thruxton, Castle Combe, Silverstone and Brands with no problem from the Marshalls. Not a 100% guarantee, but the most relaiable method I have found so far to use a camcorder in a car with no cage.

Hope that helps, cheers, Dave

headrest mount is a good choice for road cars on track but my CSL unfortunately does not have standard headrest metal bars so nowhere to fix it to.!

i think a good tether should be ok as there is no rule against having tethered stuff in your car so the suction mount becomes irrelevant
