Goodwood Noise limit/testing
Discussion
There are two tests at Goodwood, a static and a drive by. Both can be problems. The static is done at a 45 degree angle, 1/2 meter from the exhast, with revs at (I think) 2/3 of red line. The problem with the static test is that, according to the testers there, it's highly subject to atmospheric conditions. So much in fact that they told me you can pass one day and fail the next or even pass in the morning and fail in the afternoon. I've always passed it, but have varied by 3 or 4 db from session to session. I tend to have more problems with the drive by's. On a noisy day the static is not to exceed 105 db and the drive by is 101. My problem is that the meters seem to by cleverly positioned right where I'm upshifting at full red line and getting back hard on the accellerator. I get warned a lot to change my "driving style", which means short shifting. I need to find a longer term solution than that. I really like driving there.

Hi, We test at 3/4 max RPM otherwise everything else is right. J
Hi James. Thanks for the confirmation :-)I bought a noise meter and performed tests today. Thankfully they all came in below the 98db limit. Max achieved was 97.2 @ 4100rpm.
In regards to atmospheric conditions and other possible interference, is there and tolerance? +/- 1 dB etc?
Also, for the Spring Sprint, what's the allowed dB?
Cheers,

Hi,
What car have you got? Is it std? I only ask because some people have bought similar noise meters and they are not very well calibrated. The best option is to bring the car down to Goodwood and get it tested with our equipment. There is no tolerance for the conditions on the day. Re the Spring Sprint, it's run at 105db.
