Do they do it on a basis of whats recoverable from the car, as in the full race cover?

looked into it for a previous race car and never really thought it was worth it tbh- this would be for a legit road legal car used almost exclusivley on the track and driven to and from events- oh and euro jaunt smile

Basically you need a day at home, all the car mags insurance adverts in front of you, esp classic car mags if its an older car & lots of phone calls.

I managed to get a 190bhp fully caged/stripped,track supension blah blah blah for £145 fully comp agreed val at £5k & 6k miles pa did help its 20 yrs old tho so lot of classic cos to use, but its not so easy or cheap for newer stuff & insurance on track is a pain, only AON or HIC that I found for mine.

ha ha so good I said it twice! biggrin

darn compooters! wink

Yeh classic insurance does decrease massively at 15yrs+ im stuggling to get cheap quotes for somat else thats just under the 15 at present.

I'm not throwing in HIC as a recomentation tho, for me= double the price of other classic cos for 2 diferent car quotes a year apart & ok they offer track cover, but with a really massive excess tho.

if you want the insurance so that you are legal to drive to and from the track then i'd try competition car insurance. They may ask you to do at least one sprint a year in it which isn't the end of the world if it makes the price of insurance better (although it might start you off on a very expencive hobby!)

I insure my 205 gti for £280 at 28 with no no claims which isn't to bad. I think thats with unlimited mods but i'd have to check that and as i said before i think i need to do a min of one competitive event a year.

I'm with Herts Insurance, undewritten by Chaucer. £614 FC at 24yrs on a track modded BMW 325. No trackday cover per say but they cover the mods for road driving with little fuss.
