TRACKDAY NOISE (ADVICE PLEASE!)
Discussion
Hi
I fancy doing a trackday at Snetterton in December in my basically standard RX7 Mazda. I'm a bit worried about the noise limit although this looks like the higher of the two I have read about at 105dB.
The car was very quiet with it's standard exhaust but I had a Racing Beat cat back pipe fitted recently which is a fair bit fruitier. It is still a proper exhaust with twin tailpipes from the back box and the car still has the catalyist.
Basically I don't want to turn up and have a problem with the noise meter.
I understand that the car has to be run at 75% of maximum revs.
Does anyone have a noise meter within not too many miles of North Kent that I could try? Am I being over cautious? It is nothing like as loud as half of the hot hatches and Subarus that use the main road I live on...

I don't think you will have a problem. 105db is basically one of the highest limits that you can get on UK trackdays and to break 105db static at 75% Revs you are looking at race car sized emissions.
I've been on 105db days where the organisers don't even bother testing cars. If testing is done then make sure the car is thoroughly warmed up and dip the clutch to minimise any drivetrain noise. I think you will be suprised how quiet the car will actually turn out.
Snetterton is a much underated circuit, love the bombhole through coram.

Thanks everyone. I'll pop along to Brands Hatch on Sunday. I'm sure they will give me a noise test. Not sure what happens if there's a problem. Get a pal to fabricate a temporay baffle or something. The old exhaust went in a skip. No room in my flat. Plus it didn't look like the sort of thing you would want in your car for the journey home from the place that supplied and fitted the nice shiny new stainless one.
I went to Snetterton once when a neighbour was competing at a single stage rally in his Talbot Sunbeam. It was cold and I don't remember what the circuit looked like.
It's famous for that long straight and there used to be an aftermarket seat for Lambretta scooters called a Snetteton (for anyone interested in useless information). I assume it was a Bomber airfield based on the location.
