Hi,for most of my trackdays ive been driving to the circuit (mitsi evo 6)and taking a van full of spares (fuel, wheels etc)

My car is now not taxed,insured.....as i dont see the point when its only gonna get used 8 times a year.

Thing is...ive got a mk4 astra van 1.7 dti,am i right in thinking this will not be allowed to tow my car to a track??

Whats the law on this??

Ive tried to get insurance for the day,or even the 2 journeys to/from the track....but no one will insure me!!!!

Anyone help.?

If its wheels touch a public road, it needs tax and insurance. If it's in a trailer then it won't need tax or insurance.

But in that case the car will not be insured.

I get "Storage and Travel" insurance for my non-going road trackday car. Cost me a couple of hundred per year.

Simple answer is to get a trailer although you would be over weight towing with an Astra van.

As has been mentioned, it will be too heavy for the Astra to tow on a trailer, as you're looking at ~1800kgs weight including the trailer.

Google "short term car insurance", as a test Ive just put in an Evo7 for a day's insurance for me with "www.insuredaily.co.uk" and it came out at about £32

Norwich Union do short term cover, £10.50 or £21 depending on group for 1 day, up to 28 days in a 12 month period

What's the maximum weight of your trailer? What's the maximum braked towing capacity if your van?

If the first is less than the 2nd then you're legal. Sorry if i'm patronising again, but you're not making the question very clear.

To put in perspective, i tow a BMW 325i, with a mid size trailor, car is loaded with fuel, tyres and tools etc.

I need a BMW 530D to tow it with simply because of the max towing weight limit, plus car and trailer are not insured at any time yikes

max towing weights will be in your handbook or you can find out from dealership / internet.

your car on the trailer will generally not be coveredd by your van insurance.

eggar lawson / competition car insurance do a transit and storage insurance policy.

I would think being a van it will prolly be lagel to tow it - for some obscure reasons vans seem to have high towing limits.
