Hi all,

A friend of mine is arranging an exclusive track day at the ring on Mon March 10th 2008.

I'm trying to get together as many parties as I can to work on her for a group discount smile

I already have a good few on board, but the more the merrier so here are the details (ripped straight from what I posted to the Westfield forum where I'm a member) :

For those who have never been, the ring is quite simply the most stunningly exciting, eerily atmospheric place to be if you like a bit of driving. Everything you’ve heard about it is true, but nothing you are told can prepare you for the tangible sense of history and passion that exists there.

This is an exclusive day, cars only, open pit lane 9am – 5pm and also includes a full briefing from Ron Simons, a very experienced and very quick man around the ring plus a tour of the track to drink in the atmosphere (if you haven’t been, the atmosphere is nearly as special as the driving). This means it’s ideal for beginners and you don’t have the constant worry of bikes in your mirrors or the queuing, you don’t have to go out on to the track blind and you can stay out lap after lap if you wish.

The price for the day is £325, plus £130 for a second driver, which is a bargain compared to UK track days, but there is a good chance we can get this down a little if we can get a few people, the organisers won’t say to what though, so budget for the full £325, any discount we can get will come back to you afterwards.

There are a few options to think about :

There is a welcome dinner at the Dorint hotel (see below) on the Sunday night after the briefing, this is E55 (£42) and, at the very least, saves you having to go out and find something… It is also a good chance to have a chat with the organisers and instructors and get a bit lashed (bearing in mind the track walkabout starts at 8am). I’ve not eaten there before but understand it’s very decent.

The Sunday before (the 9th March) is a public day so if you want a real fix of hooning you could go down a day before and have two days driving.

Accommodation. You can sort this yourself, or if you’d rather have a little help here are 3 hotels / guesthouses that I know are fine, one for each budget, that I’m happy to get booked for you, you’ll need to pay when you get there :

Big budget :The Dorint : http://www.dorint-hotels.com/index.php
This is literally right on the grand prix circuit. Many rooms have views over the start/finish straight to get you in the mood (though sadly you won’t be seeing any racing). It’s a typical 4ish star corporate hotel and has the benefit of underground parking, so great for those going topless.
Prices are for rooms with track views : Single E85 (£64), twin/double E120 (£90)

Medium budget : Blaue Ecke, Adenau : http://www.blaueecke.de/start/
This is a typically German ye olde hotel a couple of miles from the track, if you’re after a bit of character it’s the one, though lots of the bedrooms are in a modern bit. Parking is outside.
Single E70 (£53), twin/double E95 (£72)

Saving the budget for weissbier : Haus Marvin : http://www.hausmarvin.de/en/index.php
Ignore the price, this is a very nice, clean, smart, tucked away B&B with modern rooms and en-suites. In London they’d want £200 a night for the same quality. It’s a couple of miles from the track and parking is outside. Some people more sexist than me would also mention that the lady that runs it is quite dishy.
Single E45 (£34) double/twin E60 (£45) I think there are some triple rooms too.

Other options include :
Track car hire (Caterhams or very well sorted Alfa 75s)
Instruction
Covered car storage (only a handful of spaces)

Ask me if you want more info on any of this.

I’ll have to leave you to sort out your own crossings and travel as doubtless you’ll all be wanting different crossing points etc.

If you need to know anything, email me : anniesam@tiscali.co.uk

If you want to reserve a spot (it’s limited numbers), do the same and let me have your address and phone number, no. of drivers, whether you want accommodation, if so for which nights and where and whether you want the welcome dinner. The organiser will then get in touch to take more info and get a booking form to you.

They want a 50% deposit immediately, payment in full by 10th Feb.

If you have any ring specific questions, the best place for info is Ben Lovejoy’s http://www.nurburgring.org

Hi, just wondering how this event went? A group of us went on a few public days in May and were a bit disappointed by the number of closures. Will you be doing another one of these, as at least 10 of us would be interested?

What will the organiser do if the ring is under 4 foot of snow on the 10th march?

LOL, here in Europe we have snowtyres - would be good fun if your were in front engined RWD car!

Sorry dont know the real answer..

Reminds me of the guy on 5th gear who takes the Maserati MC12 round a snow bound track - needless to say all ends in tears !

always used to be that when the track couldn't be used (ie due to snow) the ring doesnt charge the track renter. therefore you should get your money back (or credit). obviously this depends on each company. however with the dates that early in the year be prepared for snow or bad weather. they will NOT let you on with snow chains! also there's a good chance if you get a good winters clear day the track will have too much black ice.
me personally i woudn't go out before april or after the middle of november as the chance of bad weather is too high. nice to see someone having a go at putting on the event though
any reason for being charged for extra drivers though?seems a bit tight!

Craig's correct.

I've got the contract for my "Destination-Nurburgring.com" private track days there on April 20th and 21st then July 18th and 19th 2011 and it mentions that if the facilities aren't available to the hirer on the day then no fee is due.

A credit full credit back to the customer is the norm.
