road insurance for track day cars?
Discussion
hi all
this year im wanting to get into trackdays a bit more and get a track car.
i need to have a roadlegal car to drive to track so road insurance?
i cant add another car on my policy so i will have to insure it as me having no ncb, add mods then it gets expensive, is there any special polycies for this situation?
ive been on day insure site and i can insure a williams clio for £12 a day thats not bad but they dont cover mod;s

I tried A plan (see the ad at the top of the page), and Adrian Flux. Both accept mods and both take into account the NCB you have on your road car.
It's cost me about £400 TPFT, street parking in an average area, no security, all new suspension/brakes/interior mods and such. It's limited to 3000miles/year and they replace like for like in the event of a shunt.
It'll get better, obviously, as I build up a second NCB.

My last road legal track car cost me £160 a year fully comp on a classic limited mile policy with all mods declared. I have just transfered the policy over to my new (replacement) car and the premium has onlygone up £15. The policy is on a club scheme though and through Houghton Insurance. Worth giving them a ring I suppose???
could look at competition car insurance mine was around £280 on a 205 gti which i think has unlimited mods and no no claims.
They may ask you to do a min of one sprint (timed laps with only one car on track at a time) a year which would require you to have a non race license which is around £40.
