hello team,

looking for some advice on brake pads. got a clio 182 and currently using ferrodo 2500s. problem is i currently wear pretty much half a set of pads in 1 track day which means i can't really use them for a second. much as i like buying new pads and changing them, i'm thinking there must be a better solution.

so, any suggestions on a longer lasting pad. pagid blue? ferrodo 3000s? carbon lorraine? what are any of these like on the road?

cheers

In the same boat with a 172 Monster. I've about a month in which to make up my mind.

I think for certain I'll be going for something more extreme than the Ferodo DS2500.

My 172 is on DS2500s but will be on pagid blue next time for similar reasons to yours.

We've run a few things on our Clio 182 Cup. Pagids are very good althogh expensive and I think more suited to heavier faster cars. I found the Mintex 1144 and 1155 to be much better than the Ferrodo. Drop me a note if you want more details.

Stephen - I haven't bought the pagids yet and have a set of 1144s kicking around in the garage - sounds like I should be fitting them instead?

If you have them then I'd certainly give them a go, if you find they are not lasting then try the 1155 compound, if you are still struggling then try 1166 (I think they do that pad in 1166 but I'd have to check).

Make sure your fluid is good too.

Ferodo Ds3000 much more bite than Ds2500 but you will need good tyres as well or you will be locking wheels. I think there have about 50% better friction properties than the Ds2500

Need them to be usable for every day commute though, which rules out DS3000!

Carbotech Panther plus is a great commuter/track pad. Dusts a lot but wears very well.

I run the XP8s and find them faultless on track.

ds3000 are great when up to temp but I found for every day driving they squeeled all the time which was very annoying.
I use 2500 now which aren't as good but still pretty good at slowing a 1.3 ton car from 70 to 0 in no time at all...

I use carbotech xp8 on my evo (have done for 4 trackdays now)absolutley faultless.Stops my evo like a brick wall.

Ds2500 are decent but arent in the same league IMO.

If you dont give them some real stick to bed them in then yes.....im on my 2nd set (front and rear) not a peep.

A good session on a trackday should bed them in....;-)

Depends what you want...if you want top brakes that stop great, but may squeal...then buy the xp8.

Or if you dont want to stop as quick/safe but have no noise then buy something else....ds2500.("my brakes are crap but there quiet"!! ;-))

I know what id rather have!!

Pagid Yellow's are expensive but superb. They do squeal a bit (unless used very, very hard) on the road, but at least it lets everyone know that you're coming wink

I've been using 1155s on my track pugs for years, i'm still on my first set with over 20 track days and a few thousand road miles.

You can't beat Pagid RS blue/yellow - as above the yellows squeal on the road but they work very very well. Best pads I've used on the Golf. Very pricey though.

I used Mintex M1144 at Bedford on Saturday as I got some cheap off eBay.. they were not much better than road pads imo.

err as above Pagid yellow is clear winner, mega on most cars, great wear rate mega fade resistant, only issue is price, I use ebc yellow on sub tonne cars & get on well, at £60 all inc front & rear vs £300 pagids!! not pagid yellow good & couple of trackdays max, but fine for me.
