I know that local forecasts for the 'Ring shouldn't be relied upon too much but I'm due to go from the 20th-23rd March and the forecast is rain and snow. The last thing I want is a long trip with three nights booked and the track closed for the weekend - my question is, should I risk it and ignore the forecast or should we postpone? Anyone else with the same dilemma?

The best site that I know of for 'ring weather:
http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/europe_forecas...

The fact is, however, that the weather there is highly variable. It can be filthy at ten and sunny and dry by midday, and you just have to work around it.

Unless there is fog, ice, or the snow is sticking, the circuit will be open as scheduled.

If it is cold and wet, the best thing that you can do is to stay away from the apexes, which tend to be polished and slippery. About 18"-2" off the normal line is fine.

This is an excellent demonstration of the wet line:

Thanks Flemke, that's an excellent weather site. I've had similar experiences at the Ring as you say (wet-dry-wet on the same day, different parts of the circuit etc) but I think I needed someone to remind me. I lost a day in December due to ice on the track so that's in the back of my mind.

Super Sabine clip - her line through Wipperman is awesome; probably the most difficult place to overtake!

Cheers

I wasn't making a prediction for the coming weekend's weather!
This weekend, Friday and Saturday were lovely; today was 5hit.
Even in dire conditions there is usually something to do out on the circuit. You can experiment with the grip off-line, take it slow and study the camber changes, or even just enjoy the scenery.

My commitment, as you know, is fairly high - but I really struggled on Sunday to find actual enjoyment on track - RS suspension and Cup tyres meant I had to see the funny side of an early spin and being overtaken by both a Yaris and a Fiat van. smile

Would a Ferrari driver ever admit to that?
