Trip at the 'ring
Discussion
Hey guys
My first post on here. Found you guys through EVO magazine. Pretty neat site !
Im going on a trip to Europe this June. I will be visiting the 'ring on the 23 rd of July. I have basically a day to spend at the 'Ring.
So far I have two options;
1- rent a Golf GTI from those guys http://www.rent-racecar.de/gb/preise2007.html
2- Go for a ride on the 'ring Taxi.
Which would be the best ? I'm tempted to bite the bullet a rent that Golf for the day. Is there any other options out there if I want to drive on the 'ring and have a bit of fun ?
Is there any museums, car factory or any cool attractions around there that I should visit ?
Thanks in advance for the replies. And Moderators, feel free to move this topic to the proper section if you have to !
Thanks,
Mat

There are a number of other places renting track prepped cars for use on the ring, I reccomend http://www.rsrnurburg.com They are right near the ring entrance.
Ring Taxi tends to be booked far in advance so if you want to do that book now.
There is a museum but its currently closed due to massive building works.
Same for the gokart track.
All the information you could possibily need can be found on Ben Lovejoys site:
http://www.nurburgring.org/
Drop in on some of the 'ring forums and see who is going to be there when you are. Most of the regulars will be happy to take you out for passenger laps, which is both great fun and gives you a chance to see the track & learn the protocol before jumping in.

Work out where the spectating points are, its good fun to watch and get some pics & vid.

The 'Ring Taxi is definitely worth doing. We were there in a Caterham and although it was great driving around, the taxi experience topped it all off. It's such a long circuit that you're just constantly learning, especially if you're only there for a day. The taxi shows just what an amazing track it is, when driven properly
My recommendation, would be to book a taxi ride and car if possible, booking the taxi for about lunch time, so that you get some laps before hand, and then have the potential to do some more afterwards! +if you can book the taxi between a few mates, as it reduces the cost
Just my two-bits worth!

The 23rd is a Wednesday by the looks of things in which case the Ring is only open to the public (Touristenfahrten) from 17:45 to 19:30

The Ring Taxi would be your best bet if you can get it and /or catching a passenger lap with another Ringer !
Can also recommend the guys at http://www.rsrnurburg.com I believe a couple of the instructors post on here Ed & Dale, cant remeber their PH names off hand. Top geezers
they can probably make suggestions on making the most of your trip.
I did the 75' Experience with them on the 20th April and had a fantastic day

I take it you are not driving to the Ring because that would be your best option... take your own car out and see what she/you are capable of. The adrenaline rush is second to none...
Go onto Ben Lovejoy's site also... loads of information and, if you can have a "spotter" for all things Ring.. he is probably your man (English speaking anyway).
Ring taxi is good fun.. spesh if Sabine is driving as she tends to showboat quite a bit
Take a helmet with you also, as people tend to be quite friendly there and will always let you pax with them in some great exotica.
If you decide to go out in one of the Vipers though... word of warning; don't take the red one... tends to get a bit hot and hades like, but the in car extinguisher works wonders...
You will have a superb time.
Am planning to go that around that time myself again so if you are not too squeamish and don't mind a girlie driver.. I shall look out for you
