Crash at the 'Ring..
Discussion
i did hear about an old jag that dropped all its oil on track, causing a 911 to spin, and then a few bikers get caught up in it, but i dont know where abouts that was. Also a white clio 197 that sounded pretty horrific, oh and a green scooby that went up in flames near wipperman
Busy weekend!
Busy weekend!I believe the Clio was rolled a few times & the pax was airlifted in a serious condition & survived.
Despite being dry & sunny the whole day the track was a mess of heavy traffic with lots of crashes everywhere.
The one at the end of the day was a Jag blowing up and dropping oil at Klostertal (fast right before Steilstrecke, which is before the Karussell).
At least 3 bikes went off hard on the oil, as did a 911 which hit one of the downed bikes (rider had got clear). A few other smaller knocks as cars and bikes bumped each other in the drama zone.
It sounds like the Jag driver didn't make any attempt to flag the oil, which really highlights how so many people who drive the ring don't bother taking just a few minutes to learn what to do. Piss poor effort, especially considering others lives at risk.
Several ambulances were on scene as well as the heli, but no one was airlifted which I took to be a good sign.
They stopped all traffic at that point and after a while they turned us around and the 40 or so cars drove the wrong way down the track to come off at Breidscheid.
I expect the Jag driver was handed a MASSIVE bill for all the carnage, track closure time, cleanup, etc.

Jag driver -

The Jag was driving behind me. Although I could have continued in front of him, being my first trip I was taking it relatively easy and decided to let him pass ahead. Two corners later I cam upon the oil slick and a smoking jag...he had pulled to the side with what looked like an F1-style engine blow up.
Given what happened afterwards I consider myself lucky that I did not fall victim to the situation
To be honest, however, I am not entirely sure what else the Jag driver should have done. Being a saloon driver, I doubt he was a track regular, whether he was aware of oil 40m behind him, or would have realised why his car had stopped. And given the speed at which everyone else is pelting down the track, are you saying he should have stood there to wave drivers down? having no oil flag on him? (Just curious to educate myself on this point for future trips)
Nonetheless, glad to hear that most people were ok.

i wouldnt let it put you off. Its hard to explain, but whilst there are accidents every day, its just an accepted risk. Ive been 5 times in 3 years now, probably spent 20 days there, done 30 or so laps in various cars at different times of the day and ive never witnessed a crash infront of me yet. Ive come close but ive always been in a situation where anything infront has been flagged up in good time. You cant call yourself an enthuiast until you've been there!
We were there on Sunday in a white Clio Cup 197, fortunately not the one that rolled. As I understand, it was in the Eschbach area. Reports are that the car was a complete mess - roof stoved in, not a lot left of the front end etc. Hope all are OK.
We were also in the queue of cars behind the motorcycle crash. Never a good sign when an air amulance arrives and kills the engine... One of the riders sounded like it was pretty serious - anyone know if he survived?
Unconfirmed rumours were that the Jag driver had the engine or gearbox light on in the dash before setting out onto the circuit. It was pretty crazy on track on sunday.

Out of interest how do they persue for the costs for the damage? Is it like a hire car where you have to pay by credit card? Or do they just take your passport or something?Hi all new here.
Was at the ring over the weekend.
The Jag was smoking earlier in the afternoon when someone pointed it out he just said 'i am James Bond'.I arrived at that crash about a couple of minutes of it happening. The biker looked bad my mate got caught up in the stopped traffic about 3 cars behind the accident.
The white clio apparently was a hire car from the uk!!ooops.
The scooby fire. the guy was in the same hotel as us it was his second lap, car overheated he noticed smoke got out noticed fire tried to put it out but it just went up.
