Hey guys,

Wanting to take a mate to the nurburgring for his birthday this year - what's the best way to do it? Simply drive over, find a b&b and do a bit of driving?

Is it easy to find somewhere to stay and how long is the drive? Im guessing the best way to get there is by ferry?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Woza.

Just avoid public holidays, they're usually bedlam!

Visit Northloop.co.uk for a friendly UK based Nurburgring enthusiasts forum.

There are at least two guys on there who do organised trips - they'll sort your ferries and accomodation and give you an introduction to the Ring and surrounding area. They'll also make sure you pitch up on a weekend when the track is actually open to the public! Its about 280 miles from Calais - a long way to go to find that it's closed...

PM me for details of the trip organisers.

As this is your first trip I would recommend some private instruction. Try the 75 experience, they have plenty of Alfa 75's and some very competent instructors.

I have been to the ring before but it was only on my last trip with instruction did I really start to get to grips with it.

Ringhaus is a good hotel right next to the ring and next door to the 75 guys

As it's you mates birthday you may want to get on the cancelation list for the Ring Taxis. Eating food prior is not recommended.

Have fun

Looking at his profile, I'm guessing he's on a pretty tight budget - probably still repaying a student loan too!

75 & RSR are fantastic if you've got money to burn (Lord Laidlaw is a client...), but one of our group paid 750 Euros for a morning session last year and rekoned he'd learned more by following us - and we're hopeless!

(((EDIT: That was not meant to knock 75 or RSR! They're a great bunch of guys with a whole lot of satisfied clients and a great reputation!

I think my friend's perception of the morning may have been tainted when his wife phoned and asked why he'd just spent so much on the credit card....))))

It probably didn't help for us to bill it through our Cheri Bar account.
