Hi,

I am planning on upgrading to a better car for track days as for now I am wanting to take my basically standard Saxo VTR on a track day (Novice track day at Oulton Park) and wondered what preparation would be advised. Tyres? Oil? ect.

Many thanks if you could advise.

Brake pads, brake pads, brake pads. You wont believe how fast a standard set of pads can wear on a track. Check you have plenty of pad to wear through.

Other than that it's the usual stuff. Oil, water, tyres etc. But it was the pad wear that took me by surprise.

Actually, if it's a VTR, I'd install some brakes. Every saxo I've ever driven doesn't have anywink

But seriously. Find out where your towing hooks/eyes are and if they need to be fitted. Remove all losse objects from the car. Make sure all fluids are topped up. and watch your mirrors for faster cars.

Definitely agree with Munter. Did my first own car track day recently and on the way home i was making extensive use of engine braking!

Also you could bleed through some fresh brake fluid if that's not been done for a while. Saxo's arn't that heavy so won't be as hard on the brakes as alot of cars but still its good to be prepared.
