I'm looking into my first track day soon (the PH brands one in July) and was wondering how / where i could get a sound test to make sure all is ok no1 (as i dont want to be spending the cash to find i cant go on the circuit) and secondly as i am interested to kow how loud my car actually is.

i know its not a cerb with a straight through system from the headers, but non the less its not too quiet

can you get a db kit yourself for reasonable money?

thanks

Brands will test you before the day. Just call them up and pop down if you are local.

If not just buy a soundmeter. I dunno Maplins or something like that. Brands are ok for sound compared with somewhere like Bedford so you should be fine.

What car is it?

Cheers for that Porkie, will have a look around at somepoint and see if i can find a bd meter for not too much money, or just pop along to brands as im only half hour away

the car is a Bravo HGT, not the noisiest or quickest car by any means, but its not quiet either with no restrictions on the intake bar a cotton air filter (lots of induction noise) and a straight through exhaust from the cat (which im looking into replacing with a sports cat for freer flow)

i doubt im over the db limit, but being my first track day (aslong as the old girls back on the road) i dont want anything to go wrong at all, just a tad aprehensive i guess

Have booked the PH track evening as my first track day! Will a standard car meet the noise regs without issue or is it best to get it checked? And did you go to the last sunday service from the M20 services Andy sx?

You may wan to contact Brands and find out if the limits are based on a static test or a driveby on the track itself. If it is based on a driveby limit, conducting a static test yourself will not really tell you very much.

It was a static 102dB when I was there for an evening last week, the car hit 103.8 so I had to put the extra silencer on which brought it down to 97. They did say they did drive by but I did not get stopped even though all of the wire wool had blown out about half way through the evening.wink

Just a quick one on this topic heading to Oulton park on the 2nd July and will be in a blade engined kit car. How strickt will they be on the db levels? It's a mates car and he's hoping to borrow a meter but time is getting ever closer and wondering if its worth packs a bag of wire wool just in case!

Cheers,

Oulton Park is 105db, they test you before you go out. I was there today and saw no one flagged for noise, and there wae some bike engined sevens whish seemed very noisy. Oh and whatever you dont go to bedford with anything louder than a milk float.
