First attempt at Oulton Wed 25th June.
Discussion
I was locking the rears a little on the downshift to 3rd on a couple of corners and slightly locking the fronts into the second chicane and the last right hander before the start/finish straight.
The car sits high at the front and i think this was to blame for understeer and tyre squeal through other corners.
I adjusted my tyre pressures as they had risen by 4lb on track.
I improved my technique later in the day with less tyre noise and managed a lap of 2mins 12.
Im saving now for a set of Toyo R888's and a set of adjustable shocks.
Better brakes would be next on the shopping list and im always wanting more power.

As far as times are concerned, its just interesting to compare to other cars and also to see yourself or mods to your car improve.
Its not as if there is a stop watch running above the dashboard!
We will see next time if a set of nitrons, r888's and a little more power is enough to knock 10 seconds off a lap.

Is the lock up on downshift something you are keen to eliminate?
I recall my first outing in to trackdays, not schooled in the art of heal and toe, and virtually every corner gave my a butt clenching tail out moment with a 4th to 3rd shift without a rev match. Over the last few outings, with a bit of instruction, the shifts are matched, the lock up eliminated, and the corner smoother, balenced and faster.
Excuse me if I'm preaching to the converted, but I just wondered?
Lucks.

its not as if im on a public road!!
My comment was about the overt publication of times, not posting videos!

From the briefings, you obviously know that timing is NOT allowed on trackdays. It potentially invalidates everyone's insurance - circuit owner, trackday organiser, & participants'. Trackdays are not meant to be competitive or test days, & attempting to better your own/others' times could put them into that category, ie timing is considered as "benchmarking" - from an insurer's point of view at any rate.
Given the current health & safety/litigious environment in which we live, it is far better not to publish times from videos, as potentially they give the insurers a reason to pull the plug on cover, & the trackdays we all love & enjoy, will then be a thing of the past.
Hope that clarifies my earlier comment - which was trying to make a point in general terms, rather than have a go at anyone individually.

What if your putting a few laps in and a random member of the public watching from somewhere around the track decides out of personal interest to time you, or if he/she decided they needed real accuracy happened to put a timing device at some point on the circuit that happened to operate off the transponder in your car and then gave you the respective lap times you had done without you asking for them (1 min 59.64 secs was the best of the day) even though as they were telling you, you were protesting that you didn't want to know as no timing was allowed.
People always have and always will want to know how quick they've done a lap of any circuit. Its human nature to be competitive...............

...... in that case, go and race, don't use a track day as a test day!!! People always have and always will want to know how quick they've done a lap of any circuit. Its human nature to be competitive...............

I now only use 2 or 3 trackday organisers, but at their briefings they now specifically state that timing by anyone, from anywhere around the circuit is not allowed. They also explain that this is due to the terms of their, & the circuit's insurance. My own trackday cover is only valid if the event is subject to no timing. I've seen spectators getting reprimanded for using mobile phones to time people, along with the folks they are timing.People always have and always will want to know how quick they've done a lap of any circuit. Its human nature to be competitive...............
If you are so interested in times/being competitive, please take your ARDS test, & attend test days, leaving the vast majority of us to enjoy trackdays in the spirit of which they are intended.
Posting a link to video, which enables someone to work out a time, is I believe okay, it's the posting of the likes of "I've lapped XYZ in 2mins" which potentially causes the problem.
Sorry for what might appear to be rant, not intended that way - it's just that I woul;d hate to see trackdays become a thing of the past for something that could easily be avoided.
PS On occasion, I have followed a friend around the track, & over a beer he's told me various bits of info which were revealed on his datalogger, after he'd downloaded the info at home.
