I did a quick search on the site and didnt find anything much.

I am taking my race Ginetta to a track day at Donington this Friday and it has a 98Db limit... I think my Ginetta is around 101. Is there anything I can put on the rear pipe to silence it?

I had a look on Demon-Tweeks and saw the SuperTrapp... anyone have any experience with these?

They will probably do the trick if you are a little over e.g. 2-4db We use a couple of different things depending on the car \ tailpipe etc but the Supatrapp is probably as good as any.

If you are anywhere near Huntingdon \ Cambridge \ Bedford area drop me a note and I may be able to lend you something.

No harm in giving ACT Products a ring - I believe their silencing is primarily for TVRs but they maybe able to help.

I used their products when I had my 420SEAC.

Donington is 98 driveby. If you mean you're 101 static you will be fine with a 98 driveby.

Yes 101 static. What is the usual drop then for a driveby compared to static on average. I know it will depend on the distance they measure at, with sound dropping by half over certain distance, just interested for Donington where they do it.

No, apparently it doesnt always mean your drive-by will be lower! Depends on a car (I have no personal experience but saw another discussion about it), can be the other way around apparently.

Was why I was wondering where they measure at Donington as static at 4000 revs is going to be quieter than full chat down the back straight bouncing off the limiter... this is always a worry when you spend a few hundred on a track day and council rules (by an airport) means that you can get kicked off.

Yep the rules at Donington are a joke when you consider where it is in relation to the airport. Be carefull they are hot on drive by noise, you may need to short shift\back off where the db sensors are. I am not 100% sure where the sensors are placed on the circuit but I think there is one on the start line bridge and on the other bridge at the bottom of the circuit.

IIRC the noise meter at Donington is in the infield so it'll be on the best side for your silencer on the G20.

It's on the pit wall just after the pit entrance, keep well to the right as you come out of Goddards and short shift (though not too obviously).

I've got to reccommend the ACT silencers to anyone who needs to shed a few DBs. I have a set and got tested at Snetterton last week at 107 DB with them off.. and 92 with them on?! We checked twice to make sure the meter wasn't broken but sure enough it was telling the truth. Very pleased overall thumbup

Well I have an ACT silencer and while my results weren't quite that good I was happy. I was tested at Combe at 103.5db without and then retested another time with my silencer fitted and recorded 106.5db.

Its stainless steel, weighs about 2kg, is about 12" long and is reasonably well constructed. It cost about £100 (all in) but I think is ok value. It fits nicely and is secured by a U-clamp which seems good.

Gets me on track, I am happy.

Speak to this chap he was very helpful. He will requite the outside diameter of your exhaust and approximately how much silencing you need. If you can tell him what yours makes then all the better.

The bigger joke is yet to come, You've still got to drive past peoples homes at 3 or 4 times the legal road limit on the way to the track. IMO the cars should be trailored to the track and then have no limits when there, its called a compromise. Unfortunatley we motorists(performance modding types) are selfish bds so no compromise, we'll just moan when modding exhausts past 74db becomes illegal period.
We lost 2 tracks when I used to do motocross, the villagers still have to put up with noisy chavs everyday in Saxos and Scooters, as opposed to us once per month 9 times a year.

I have just re read my last post and there is one tiny weeny little error on it.

I said my noise tested 106.5db AFTER fitting the silencer, well it should have read 96.5db, naturally being lower WITH a silencer than without.

DUH!

sorry
