Helmet regs for MSA trackdays

cut & paste from that form- "Note: Motorcycle helmets, horse riding helmets, cycling helmets or ANY other form of head protection is not acceptable unless it has one or more of the above stickers. The MSA standards requires fireproof linings which are not normally needed except in motorsport"

But it has the old BS type A blue sticker in its list= blue which as ive got one on a bike lid is not fireproof.

So a tad odd there.

There is no MSA standard for track days that I'm aware or, the MSA are not involved in any way.

Some track day organisers may choose to adopt MSA motorsport standards for safety equipment but that's purely their choice and you can't assume that any two will impose the same standards.

The MSA standard regulations currently permit BS6658-85 type A and BS6658-85 type A/FR helmets, among others. The FR indicates a fire resistant lining. There are plenty of bike helmets that meet these standards. The MSA standards do not permit BS6658-85 type B - these are the cheap moped helmets that provide far less protection.

just to note: i realise not all trackdays require helmets made to these standards (the only standards recognised by MSA). i posted this to assist anyone trying to determine the helmet standards required specifically for MSA trackdays, hill-climbs, etc

i hope that if i purchase such a compliant helmet, it will be useable for 99% of track days i'm likely to enter for.

Just to avoid any possible confusion: As far as I'm aware, there is no such thing. The MSA is not involved in organising or regulating track days in any way.

Exactly, I've done 5 trackdays as a driver and far more as a passenger and never had my helmet checked (Oo er!)
