Can't seem to find a track tyre in 215/40/16. Don't think anyone makes one.

Therefore what is the next best tyre....the best performing performance road tyre?

Could you not run 215/50/16 without causing any clearance issues? If so try Camskill as they have 888s in that size.

I reckon that would increase the rolling radius by about 13 cm which would make the gearing feel taller thus reducing acceleration. If anything, I would go the other way and go a liitle lower profile for a track tyre to make the rolling radius a little smaller and shorten the gearing. Being really geeky, it would also slightly lower your centre of gravity!

a 50 profile would be like an offroad tyre.

Sorry I don't have any tyre suggestions for you - I have a similar problem on my car.

Tyres are close as it's on a MK1 Golf.

I thought you had the answer there but unbelievably the 205/45's are 13mm taller. It might just do as that's only 6.5mm on the radius.

Thanks

I think for a mk1 golf I would be tempted to get a set of 15" track wheels - the tyre choice in 195/50 15 is massive and also very cheap.

I run 15s on my Mk1 and have the 280 G60 discs/hubs/calliper set up and have no clearance issues at all. Camskill do 888s at £70 each delivered as well.

I'm coming round to that way of thinking.

7x15's it is. What's around on the wheel front then?

I ran Comp Mo's on my old MkI Not that light but at the time it was one of the only wheels that i could find to clear 305mm discs with 4 pot calipers (and i think they look good on the MkI).

You have a big choice with 15" in wheels an tyres. Team Dynamics pro race 1's are cheap and light and they also clear big brakes as above.
