I will be travelling up from the South Coast with my pal PaulB on the 23rd and staying over night so that we may arrive refreshed and ready to go on the morning of the 24th. Paul will be in a stripped out supercharged BMW 540 and I will be taking my M60 4.0ltr V8 powered e36 yes
It is a long way for us to be making this trip but if the track lives up to its reputation it should be well worth it. If any one from here is to attend please make yourself known on the day, we may look a little unsavoury at first glance but we are a friendly pair at heart, go forth and prosper hippy

WOW! Oulton Park ROCKS yes What a fantastic circuit. It rained overnight and there was a bit of standing water in the morning which made things very interesting to say the least. Paul was out with an instructor and because I had not had time to fit a passenger seat in the e36, I followed him round for 5/6 laps and when he went in I started to push on a little. Not a good idea and after several very near slides I came in. As the morning progressed it did start to dry out and I did one more session before an early lunch due to a Porsche having a BIG off. After dinner it was a different story, the sky was blue and the air was warm but most importantly, the track was dry. I progressively went better and better and I have to say that the car was fantastic; predictable, reliable and fast although a few areas that will require attention were highlighted. The day culminated in me finding the limits of an overheated road tyre and having an off just before the entry to the pits. It had been raining so heavily the night before that it had caused the grass to be as soggy as hell and I would have hit the tyre wall without a doubt but the car dug itself in sideways about 150mm into the soft stuff and voila! I was saved ( or more to the point, the car was ) and once everyone had returned to the pits, ( thankfully it was the end of the last session anyway ) a marshall waved me back on to the circuit and I drove straight onto the trailer, strapped Kylie ( I bought the car from an add on PH's about two or three years ago and she was pre named by one of her many previous owners, I didn't care for it much to begin with but it has grown on me ), said my goodbyes and f/o pronto pre 6 hour journey back home.
A monumental occasion that more than lived up to the hype. I found it easy to get to grips with right from the start and liken it to a sort of 'mini Nordschleife'.
Donnington next; Can't wait.

Hi Wayne

Good to meet you yesterday. I thought you said you were not going out again at the end of the day!!!!

Glad to hear it didn't end in tears.

I agree, it was a great day and a brilliant track. Would love to go back for some more.

Matt, good to meet another pistonhead, any chance of getting your photos uploaded?

Chris

Yep - Have to agree! What a fantastic place. Very much like Donni only more technical. Bloody slippery in the morning and I too had a very close brush with the barrier. (Thanks for not mentioning it Wayne wink ) Mine was within the 1st half lap of ventuing out. I had Mike the gurru with me and fell off doing about 40mph on the wrong line out the back of the circuit. It was like hitting a bloody great patch of diesel. By mid afternoon you was able to take the same section almost flat in third!

The car stayed together and the day threw up a load of work that needs doing. I hope to get one more day in before winter and then start on the list of must do's.

Re bushng all round ....
Fit an LSD .....
Sort the stoppers ....
Lower the passenger seat ...
Loose more weight ....
Gain more power .....

This could get expensive!
(Still cheaper than stuffing the Ultima though)

Uploading them to photobucket took a while. GOod to see you Chris.

Didnt get any of the crashed porsche as some women had a go at every oone who tried to. Apperantly it was because it was not my car. Neither were any of the others there but I am allowed to take pictures of them. Go figure!

Any pictures:

Everyone was asking that question - Turns out it is a one off TVR race car. V6 power and very well sorted. (All told to us by a guy on the pit wall) The build under the bonnet is supposed to be a work of art.
