Evening all,

Recently puchased a Mk1 MX5 so first track day is now booked! I'm doing the am Novice session at Brands on the 19th - anyone else going?

Really looking forward to it!!!

So, what do I need to know?

Stuff I've worked out so far:
Top up all fluids
Set tyre pressures to 'normal'
Booked one session with an instructor
Sort out towing points
Drive within my limits
Have FUN!

Anything else?

Cheers,
Matt

Hi

I have recently started track days and my advice is to let a bit of pressure out the tyres once you have completed a few hours. Your tyres can gain upto 10psi . I ruined a set of tyres 2 weeks ago as i started with 28psi in the morning but they went upto 36psi and i didn`t realise.

I hired a mx5 at silverstone and never had so much fun.

you will love it

good luck

Cheers Scott - one of those tyre pressure sensors is on my list of things to buy. I've never checked tyres cold as I've always just driven to a petrol station to do it.

Hi Matt

I'll be there in the am session - my first trackday too (aside from a trip to the Nurburgring) - I'll be in an Alfa 155 as shown in my profile pic.

I'd add "check wheel bolts are tight" to your list.

Looking forward to it smile

I'll have a electric tyre pump with me too, so come and grab me if you need it smile

Getting a bit nervous about tomorrow now - at least in part due to the fact that I installed the brakes on my car myself biggrin

Really nice to meet you, Matt and Matt - the Mx5 and the ST looked like a lot of fun out on track.

Thought it was an excellent novice trackday experience, well-organised, nice bunch of people, driving etiquette seemed good (in my very limited experience) - good fun all round!

Few (poor quality) pics - they mainly illustrate how lovely the conditions were smile

The ones the professional photographer (including entertaining Micra and White Van Man) emailed to me are here:

www.rawaction.co.uk/track/Brands-19-11-08-C-D/pm/i... - afternoon session

Just need to flick through to find your car.

I think I have the bug too! Here's to the next one! smile

What are the rules on MOT's etc?
I'm planning on getting a ticket on the rex, but if for some reason it cant (cage, poly windows, no dash, 6pt harness) I was wondering what scrutineering took place, or documents shown?
Been worknig on race cars for 10 years but never got to drive round in anger - only as a passenger.

Most trackdays require that the car is up to an MOT standard, which means it doesnt have to have an MOT but does have to be reasonably road worthy I guess.

My Colt doesnt have an MOT and Ive had no problems at trackdays.

Only scrutineering is noise normally, the track day organiser will list the noise limit for the day.
