V2 Helmets

Has anyone bought one of these helmets? Are they any good? The price is great, they meet all the regs and they look good.

I have one that I bought at Autosport in January. I've used it for a hillclimb, a sprint and a couple of trackdays and it is great.

Aftersales were very helpful sending me out an alternative set of pads when the fit wasn't quite right, and it passed MSA scrutineering with no issues.

The sizes seem to come up a bit large. An XL is a perfect fit for me in an arai, but the XL V2 I could pull off my head with the strap done up.

The finish is a little rough round the edges and after playing with the padding I had to re-stick down some of the velcro patches but it seems perfectly sound now.

Can't comment on it's protective capabilities thank goodness, but I am very happy with it especially for the price.

I have one, I have used it for around ten full track days and my conclusion is you get what you pay for. The shell, strap, visor and mechanism is fine however the lining is a different story. The lining is made from the cheapest material you can imagine. It makes you sweat like you never imagined. Possibly because of the sweat or the fact that you have to clean it after every use the lining is falling apart. The material inside and the foam is glued with the minimum amount of glue. The lining material has come away from the foam in three places in mine. The lining material also wears and bobbles very quickly. Of course, compared to other helmets, they are cheap so you cant expect the quality of the pricier helmets. I have now done what I should have done in the first place and bought a Bell for three times the price. In summary it does the job but you get what you pay for.

Sorry, I can't agree ..... I have an Arai GP 5K and I have replaced the cheek pads etc three times now, and it is used very little .... That helmet retails at over £500, and in my opinion the V2 helmets are far better. I know several people who use them regularly and really think they are good value for money.

Richard Peacock, the circuit operator at Anglesey, and also an ARDS director has one, and finds it as good as anything else, so make your own mind up!!

I have one, and my brother has one. We've used them many times now. They're fine (can't comment on
their performance in a crash though!). I'll agree with a previous poster that the interior is a little
'cheap', but I certainly wouldn't pay another £300 just to get plusher cheek pads.
Lotus-on-Track buy them to loan out and recommend them.

All of this, Lotus on Track and ARDS directors using them, makes no difference whatsoever to my experience of them, the lining and cushioning inside is very low rent. Yes, make your own mind up, it's your head.

I was looking to get one earlier this year, however they are out of stock until late August September/October now - something about being let down by the suppliers.

On paper, they seem really good value for money (for what they are), and I'd still like to get one. I suspect they will be as safe as anything else made out of Kevlar/Carbon composites, bearing the Snell SA2005...of course, I don't ever intend to personally test their protective qualities.

For those who are interested, I have asked them about pre-installed HANS posts - that service is planned for around November this year.

i have a v2, great company to deal with, used the helmet many times over, never a problem.

I saw these at the Autosport show and had a long chat with the company's M.D. He told me that the helmets are made in China which is why they can be produced so cheaply. The shells seemed OK and nicely finished to me, and very light, but, they were let down by the rest of the finish, and to be fair to the guy, he agreed and said he hoped to improve them over time.

I'm very choosey over helmets; it's not just about the construction of the shell or that they pass SNELL approval, it's about fit and comfort, and overall quality. I found the sizes were way out as someone else pointed out, but even when finding the one that was the right size, it was a poor fit and very uncomfortable; the visor wasn't very good quality, was too thin, didn't fit the shell properly, didn't seal around the aperture rubber, and the pivot mechanism was cheap and flimsy - one ever came apart while I was 'testing' it; and the lining was cheap and quite nasty. They would have to improve all those things dramatically before I would use one.

I started out wearing Bell Helmets when I first started, I also tried Simpson when they first came out, then when Arai broke into the motor sport market I tried one and I haven't used any other make since. The overall quality of Arai is simply the best there is and the fit is perfect. I've recently tried other makes on, Bell, Schuberth, Simpson. Sparco, etc, and none have come close to persuading me to dump the Arai brand. I know they are stupidly high-priced, but you only get one head! For the time being I'll be sticking with Arai... saving up for the new GP6 @ £2600! Not really! LOL
