Just want to establish if it is generally acceptable to use a motorcycle helmet at trackdays or do you have to have a 'motorsport' type?

Thanks in advance

Most seem to have the gold square sticker rather than the blue or red BS sticker - is that right?

The gold sticker will be ACU (motorcycle) approval. For car racing you need a British Standard type A approval and type A fireproof for international events. Type B helemts are usually thermoplastic and are best avoided.

Theres a lot of nonsense talked/repeated about car helmets being greatly different. People with a longer memory will recall that Arai were using bike helmets for motorsport not too long ago...

Thats what I got. A bike helmet with a gold sticker, and you're good to go on trackdays.

Get down the local bike helmet place, try helmets on untill your ears are raw, and then pick the one that fitted best.

I tried one on at Autosport show. But the sizings are a bit strange - I need an extra small and they didn't have any left !!!!

I have a bike helmet with the ACU gold square sticker, was just wondering whether it will be ok for all trackdays or whether organisers are demanding motorsport types

The ACU sticker will only be awarded to a Type A approved helmet, which is a 'motorsport' type. Beyond that is Type A Fireproof, but you only need those for FIA international events, not domestic motorsport.

I looked at these helmets at the show, and they are definately good value for money, ....... cheaper than the majority of bike helmets, but ready to use for a car race should you need it!!! The quality was very good, .... Don't hesitate!! HTH

They do look good H but since you've only got the proverbial ten dollar head surely a second hand open face bike lid from an ebay seller based in Kazakhstan would be fine???tongue out
