Hi, i've been kinda half prepping my car a bit. Anyways, i cant get in with myhelmet on with the standard seat, infact, i only have about 1 or 2 cm of headroom at the best of times.

So, anyways, i'm tall, and i'm wide. I've managed to get myself a £45 bucket seat (cobra monaro i think) which doesnt really have much shoulder support so i can just about squeeze my arse into it. Winner. bolt it to the floor (bmw e36) and i have an inch or so of headroom with my motocross helmet on, winner.

The problem is, i realised that the holes for the harnesses are a fair way down my back, and my my head is a bit over the top of the seat (but not so high that my head would roll over the back of it when i'm wearing my helmet). Anyway, my concerns are that if i was to hit something, the harnesses would push down and effectivley crush my shoulders down.

Does anyone know of any bucket seats for big people? Or even, are there people who can make custom made bucket seats? And not for a gazillion quids?

I think motordrive do custom made seats, seem to remember a friend of mine having one made for his 205 rally car as he's a large guy

recaro profi SPG XL is superb for wider and taller people.

it has about 40mm extra width i think and extended harness slots but is a bit pricey!

I think most of the major manufacturers do a range for the huskier driver now.

I found the OMP 'Big' to be about perfect for me, I believe they also do a 'Big 2'.

In a saloon car you should not have to much trouble fitting the seat in but the best thing to do (if possible) is get to a motorsport supplier that has a good range of seats and sit in all the seats (remember that the cushions are only velcored in and can be moved / removed!). Once you have found a comfy one take the passenger seat out of your car and drive it to the shop and offer up the seat to make sure it fits and the door closes with the window closed.

I would not want to use a seat with the harness holes below my shoulders or that my head is only just below the level of the back on. Remember to that seats are like shoes...some you will never get on with and some feel great!

Cheapest offer will be Sandtler Racing XXL - the same shape as sparco/omp, but rebadged and less expensive

Heres another vote for the SPG XL - a wonderful seat. I have spent weeks and weeks and weeks in them!!

Brilliant!
