Venues around Dorset (South Coast)
Discussion
Just wondered if anyone had any suggestions as to whats on in the more local area? Even Airfeild/Training days etc would be nice to know.
I just don't get a nice enough MPG (15-18mpg) to be traveling all over the country AND pay for a track day!
So far I've come up with...
Keevil @ 53miles
Colerne @ 63miles
Castle Coombe @ 66miles
Hullavington @ 68miles
Whats peoples opinion on these places? - I've done castle coombe a few times but IMO the price is pretty high for what you get out of the day?
Any other venues that you could recommend?

Went to Hullavington on Friday 6th March, organised by motorsport events and was very pleasantly surprised. It only cost £89, it was open pit lane and very well organised.
The track surface was good and actually a good layout. They also had a section away from the track where you could spend 5 minutes on your own with a slalom and roundabout section to throw the car around and feel what it is like to hang the back end out.
Worth every penny IMO. People behaved themselves, it was safe and a decent standard all round.

I've been to Colerne. It was OK. The surface is not as good as a track and being on a flat and windy MoD airfield is a bit boring in my opinion. I like motorsport history so even being in the pit garages at Brands Hatch gives me better feeling for the day.
But it's cheap and on the plus side there is plenty of run-off so mistakes won't be punished like they would on a traditional circuit with gravel and armco.
There is a sizable cost difference between proper race circuits and airfield days though, so you get what you pay for.

I found Keevil track was quite rough and dirty, although that is over 12mths. ago. Castle Combe is in my view excellent
with good catering and an open pit lane(at least on my visit). For me part of the fun of a track day is driving actual circuits, although I would like to try an airfield for a max. speed run but these seem a rare offering, presumably because of RAF security issues.
